There are many reasons why you may need to jack up your Mustang, and when it's time to do so, you must know a few important steps to make sure it gets done properly as well as safely. Different cars may have different ways to be jacked up, and even those procedures may vary depending on the specific situation or environment. Follow this simple step-by-step guide to jacking up your Ford Mustang.

Materials Needed

  • Floor jack
  • Wheel chokes (optional)
  • Jack stands (optional)

Step 1 – Locate jacking points

Every Mustang is manufactured with standard areas called "jacking points," which are defined areas where the emergency repair jack, or a heavy duty floor jack, can be mounted in order to lift the car. Depending on the repair you are trying to perform, you may choose a particular jacking point to make sure that particular area of the vehicle is lifted.

Warning

Jacking up your Mustang from any other spots is dangerous and could lead to an accident or injury.

Step 2 – Jack up car

Now that you've chosen the proper jacking point, it's time to use the jack to lift up your Mustang. Follow these steps to do so properly:

  • Make sure you are on a leveled surface; if not, use wheel chokes or the handbrake to stabilize the vehicle.
  • Make sure jacking point is clean and free of any debris.
  • Position jack lift base against the jacking point.
  • Turn or pump jack to lift vehicle.
  • Only jack up vehicle to gain enough clearance to perform the desired repair.
  • If you will be working underneath the vehicle, use jack stands for support.

Pro Tip

Never work underneath a car that is only supported by a floor jack.
