Ford Mustang V6 and Mustang GT 1994-2014: How to Replace Side Mirror
These days it's hard enough to drive around worrying about all those crazy drivers. So let's lessen the stress and show you how to replace the power mirrors on your Ford Mustang.
This article applies to the Ford Mustang V6 and Mustang GT (1994-2014).
Whether a pole or another driver is the culprit, a broken mirror is extremely dangerous to drive around with. Since these mirrors are responsible for decreasing the blind spots on your vehicle, you could easily end up in another accident without them functioning correctly. The mirror is mounted by a few bolts on the door, and is very easy to replace. So grab your tool set and use these following instructions to replace the power mirror on your Ford Mustang.
Materials Needed
- Phillips screwdriver
- 7/16" socket
- Pliers
- 3/8" ratchet
- Flat head screwdriver
Step 1 – Remove window's switch control panel
The control panel is held in place with several clips, so use your flat head screwdriver to push down the tabs and remove the assembly. Do the same for the speaker cover located at the top of the door. Once the cover is off, use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove the mounting screw holding the speaker in place.
Step 2 – Disconnect the power mirror harness
This may take some time, but grab your pliers and reach into the door to disconnect the power mirror harness clip (2-wire connector).
Step 3 – Remove the power mirror
Carefully loosen the three 7/16" mounting bolts for the mirror. When you are loosening the last bolt, stop with the ratchet, hold the mirror by hand and loosen it using your fingers. This will help prevent the rest of the mirror from falling on the ground. Grab the harness wire from the mirror, and snake it out of the door. Remove the power mirror for the car.
Step 4 – Install the new mirror
- Mount the new mirror in place.
- Once aligned, hand-tighten each of the 7/16" bolts.
- Snake the harness back into its position on the door.
- Reconnect the wire harness.
- Torque down the 7/16" bolts.
- Tighten the speaker back in place.
- Clip on the speaker cover.
- Re-install and connect the master control panel on the door.
