A vibrant interior is possible with longer lasting dome light bulbs.

This article applies to the Ford Mustang V6 and GT (2005-2014).

The interior of your Ford Mustang is just as important as the exterior, which is why having good lighting is so important when owning a vehicle. Whether you're a weekend warrior who enjoys hitting the wide, open road for incredible road trips, or just a person navigating the challenges of a long daily commute, being able to see objects in your car clearly can make a real difference. Unlike a map light, which offers directional light, your dome light is designed to light up your entire cabin. If you don't feel that you have sufficient lighting in your Ford Mustang, it's highly recommended that you swap out your old bulbs for new ones. As well, it's worth mentioning that LED bulbs are a smart alternative to halogen bulbs, which don't last as long or offer nearly as much illumination as their LED counterparts.

Materials Needed

  • Fresh stock bulbs or LED bulbs
  • Flat head screwdriver (if installing LEDs)

Step 1 – Pull down on the housing

  • Pull down on the housing to gently remove it.
  • Because it snaps right off, you shouldn't need to exert any real pressure here.
  • If you will be using stock bulbs, simply replace them from the rear.
  • There is no need to remove the lens cover.
  • If you will be installing LED bulbs, proceed to Step 2. Otherwise, you are all set.

Step 2 – Install LED bulbs

  • With the dome light housing still removed, reach from behind the light and remove the tabs holding the lens cover in place.
  • You'll need a flat head screwdriver to do this.
  • The pins can be stubborn, so apply force as needed.
  • Rock the lens cover left to right to completely remove it.
  • Install your new LED bulbs.

Step 3 – Test your new LED bulbs

  • Reinstall the light housing, and then test out your new LED bulbs.
  • If you have installed LED bulbs, you should notice greater illumination throughout the cabin of your Ford Mustang.
  • If your new bulbs won't work, check that they have been inserted properly.
