The 2007 GT500 was displayed at the Detroit Auto Show, which really supercharged the public's desire for its release in 2007. The reason why the entire world is so wound up about the 2007 GT500 is because is boasts 475 horsepower from a supercharged 5.4L 32 liter V8 and a six speed manual transmission. With all of these bells and whistles it's no wonder the 2007 GT500 Ford Shelby will possibly be the best selling Mustang ever.
Now, this incredibly powerfully Mustang which is the most powerful yet didn't just achieve this level without a lot of work. Ford started with a Triton V8 truck engine made of cast iron and then went on to add aluminum heads. From there a water to air intercooler was added as well as a supercharger that added 8.5 pounds of boost. The camshafts also were calibrated especially for this powerful machine.
A specialized air extraction hood is part of the GT500 design and a much smaller and specialized intake manifold allows the engine to fit right in. The cooling system has a larger capacity, the radiator was increased, and new exhaust manifolds all complement the dual bore electronic throttle body.
The chassis of the 2007 GT500 Ford Shelby is also worthy of amazement. Its design started back in 2005. The finalized product resulted in a three link rear suspension and a MacPherson front strut suspension. This solid rear axle seemed to conflict with such an amazing vehicle with state of the art design and technology, however designers say it creates no problem whatsoever. A Panhard rod controls the rear axle with precision.
The suspension of the 2007 GT500 Ford Shelby Mustang was also different than the usual fare. It is lower than the GT and boasts revised springs, improved front and rear stabilizer bars, and front and rear shocks with all new calibration.
The wheels of this Mustang are just another marvel on this racing machine. The wheels are 19 x 9.5 inches and the tires are 255/45ZR19. With such amazing tires and wheels on this muscle car one would only imagine the brakes were something special, too. And, you would be right! The brakes are made up of four piston calipers and 13 inch rotors on the back and in the front four piston calipers fasten the 14 inch Brembo rotors. Say it altogether now, "Wow!"
The base price of one of these muscle machines is right around $39,000, but it is worth it for all the power, speed, control, and braking that comes along with it. Only time can tell if the 2007 GT500 Ford Shelby Mustang will sell as expected.
