FORD:
2010 Mustang

ISSUE:

Some 2010 Mustang vehicles built on or before 9/15/2009 may exhibit a rear bumper cover fit/alignment issue along the edge of the quarter panel. Improved bumper brackets are available to correct this condition.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Prior to performing any repairs ensure that the vehicle is clean. Any dirt or debris on the bumper cover must be removed to prevent paint damage. The bumper cover will be reused and special precautions need to be taken to prevent damage. Locate a suitable location to place the removed bumper cover. The bumper cover needs to be placed on a soft surface to prevent any damage to the exterior surface.

  1. Follow Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-19 for Bumper Cover - Rear removal.
  2. Remove the right (RH) and left (LH) side plastic bumper brackets, 3 per side. Refer to WSM, Section 501-19.
  3. Attach the latest level service dog leg bracket. Push the dog leg bracket towards the quarter panel and secure the top bolt, followed by the lower. Torque the bolts to 18 lb-in (2 N-m). (Figure 1)
