AIR BAG WARNING LAMP ON - DTC 2295 IN RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE
Publication Date: April 16, 2009
This article supersedes TSB 7-10-3 to remove the production build date specification, update the vehicle model years and Service Procedure.
Some 2007-2009 Mustang vehicles equipped with side air bags may exhibit an air bag light on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B2295 in the restraints control module with lamp flash code 22/23 (driver/passenger seat side air bag circuit failure). This may be caused by a circuit connection in the side air bag module wire harness.
Use the following Service Procedure to inspect and repair the air bag wiring harness.
Position the seat to access all of the seat track-to-floor pan bolts.
Depower the supplemental restraints system. For additional information, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-20B Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures.
Remove the two (2) seat track nut covers and remove the seat track-to-floor nuts.
Remove the seat track-to-floor bolts.
Tip the seat, disconnect the side air bag module and main seat harness electrical connectors and remove the seat.
Wire Harness Inspection/Repair
Place seat up-side-down on a clean surface and inspect the side airbag wire harness for indications of chafing, pinching and incorrect wire harness routing. (Figures 1 and 2)
Figure 1 - Article 09-8-7
Figure 2 - Article 09-8-7
Remove the wire harness from the seat frame and inspect the wiring for damage.
IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE CONVOLUTE TUBING TO PROPERLY INSPECT THE WIRING.
If wiring is damaged, repair the wire using the solder splicing procedure shown in the Wiring Diagram (WD), Section 5-5. It may be necessary to remove the seat cushion side shield to perform a harness repair.
Install the side airbag wire harness to the seat frame. (Figure 3)

Body Wire Harness Repair
Mark the body side airbag harness using a marker/paint pen where the harness tape stops. This will provide a reference where to stop taping upon repair completion.
Replace the body side wire harness connector with service pigtail. Unwrap the harness tape 3" (7.6 cm) to allow for room to perform connector replacement.
Remove the existing connector from the harness by cutting the harness wires 4.5" (11.4 cm) back from the connector body. (Figure 4)
Figure 4 - Article 09-8-7
Cut Service pigtail wires 1.5" (3.8 cm) longer than body connector previously removed. This will allow enough length wire to perform a solder repair and maintain original harness length
DO NOT INCREASE OR DECREASE THE LENGTH OF THE SIDE AIRBAG HARNESS WHEN INSTALLING THE PIGTAIL.
When installing Service connector pigtail, be certain connector clip is installed facing the same direction as original. Use the removed original body connector wires matched to harness to ensure service pigtail is installed correctly.
Refer to WD, Section 5-5 for soldering the service pigtail connector onto the harness. Install heat shrink tube onto service pigtail wires prior to soldering. (Figure 5)
Figure 5 - Article 09-8-7
Tape the body harness, stopping at reference mark from Step 1.
Cut convolute provided with service pigtail to a 2.25" (5.7 cm) length. Install the convolute over the pigtail wires and tape each end of the convolute to prevent it from coming off wiring. (Figure 6)
Figure 6 - Article 09-8-7
Install seat into vehicle, tip seat to reconnect wire harness connectors.
Install the seat track-to-floor bolts. Tighten to 35 lb-ft (48 N-m).
Install the seat track-to-floor nuts. Tighten to 35 lb-ft (48 N-m).
Install seat track nut covers.
Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to WSM, Section 501-20B SRS Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures.
