This article applies only to Mustang 4.6L 2V engines built 8/1/2000 through 9/30/2000 and E-Series, F-Series, Expedition, and Navigator 4.6L/5.4L 2V and 4V engines built 8/1/2000 through 10/31/2000. This applies only to Windsor built engines.
One of the three fasteners used to secure the power steering pump to the 4.6L Mustang engine and the 5.4L truck engine manufactured at Windsor Engine Plant has been fitted with a flat washer under the head of the bolt. This is to accommodate a slight variation in the depth of the hole that is tapped to receive the bolt.
When servicing an engine fitted with this washer, ensure the washer is re-used on the bolt and corresponding bolt hole that it was originally taken from in the block (not the front cover). This is to ensure proper power steering pump-to-block torque.
