WATER LEAK - EVIDENCE OF WATER LEAK INTO LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT
NOISE - EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE HEARD FROM REAR WHEEL AREA
Publication Date: MAY 14, 1999
Excessive road noise may be heard from the rear wheel area on some vehicles. Other potential concerns may be dust intrusion into the luggage compartment and/or evidence of a water leak in the luggage compartment. This may be caused by no material being on the wheelhouse flange located on the inside of the wheel well.
Seal the wheelhouse flange. This will seal the gap in the opening and reduce the possibility of noise and/or leaks. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
The TGG-204 component medium flow sealer is odorless which will not be objectionable to the owner after the repair is complete. The supplier will ship product direct to the dealer. The name and address of the supplier is TGG (The Gateway Group), 6334 Executive Drive, Westland, Michigan 48135. TGG customer service phone number is (734) 458-7406.
Raise vehicle on hoist.
Remove rear tires.
Wipe the inside of the wheelhouse outer flange clean with a wet cloth.
Apply masking tape to the quarter panel painted flange to prevent soiling.
Wearing a pair of Latex gloves (obtain locally), dispense Sealer (TGG-204) into palm. Holding a mirror in the other hand, apply sealer to pinch weld joints (inside the wheel well) using the mirror to view coverage.
Inspect the gaps in the joints for full sealer coverage. It may be necessary to use a light to fully inspect the fillet joints.
If it is necessary, the sealer must be pressed against the gap between the flanges.
Remove the masking tape and verify that no sealer is dripping or exposed after the job is complete.
Mount rear tires onto vehicle and lower hoist.
The sealer will cure to a solid state within 40 minutes.
