  • BLOWER MOTOR - INTERMITTENT OR INOPERATIVE - TEMPERATURES AT OR BELOW 0 DEGREES C (32 DEGREES F)

1994-1997 MUSTANG

ISSUE:

An intermittent or inoperative blower motor operation at temperatures at or below 0°C (32°F) may occur on some vehicles. This may be caused by an incorrectly installed or missing fresh air inlet deflector allowing water into the blower motor housing area. The water may freeze and not allow the blower cage to rotate.

ACTION:

Replace the Cowl Vent Deflector (F4ZZ-6302184-A) and dry any residual moisture that may be present in the blower motor housing. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Refer to Figure 1.

  1. Remove both wiper arms.
  2. Remove cowl screen.
  3. Inspect fresh air inlet area on the passenger side of the cowl for the presence and proper installation of the air deflector.
  4. If the air deflector is installed and appears to be seated properly, disregard this TSB article.
  5. If the air deflector is not seated properly, remove and discard the existing air deflector.
  6. Install a replacement Cowl Vent Deflector (F4ZZ-6302184-A) onto the vehicle making sure the mounting surface is clean and dry.
  7. Reinstall the cowl screen and wiper arms.
  8. Remove the blower motor and dry up any moisture that may be present in the blower motor housing.
  9. Reinstall the blower motor.
  10. Check blower motor, wipers, and washers for proper operation.
