ISSUE:
Some customers may hear a thumping/clacking noise proportional to wheel speed during braking. This may be due to the initial cut (finish) on the front rotors and by the shoe/lining assembly contacting the leading edge of the caliper assembly abutment. If this condition exists, witness marks will be visible on the shoe/lining assembly plate, and the caliper anchor plate. Brake performance is unaffected by this condition.
ACTION:
Refer to the following procedure for service details.
| NOTE: | THIS CONCERN IS EXHIBITED ON A LIMITED NUMBER OF VEHICLES WITH 500 MILES (800 KM) OR LESS. HOWEVER, IT SHOULD BE GONE BY 500 MILES (800 KM). |
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Ensure that the vehicle has more than 500 miles (800 km) of service.
- Turn both front rotors with a Rotunda "On-The-Car Brake Lathe". This repair method is more effective than "off-car" brake rotor turning because it allows the steering knuckle to serve as a pilot for the rotor, resulting in improved runout and surface finish.
