It's not just the service and the knowledge of the people - there are many parts available for Mustangs because of the demand. My experience has been that Mustangs Unlimited stocks the cheapest part they can buy to make a better profit. I HAVE gotten many good parts from them but have had enough bad ones that I will not buy there if I can find the same item from someone else. I have gotten a dud from Mustangs Unlimited, turned around and ordered the same part from NPD, Mustangs Plus or Virginia Classic Mustangs and gotten a totally better quality item. Virginia Classic Mustangs has been especially good to me, their prices often beat the competitors and the item has been good. They are not however, a big time parts carrier.

Truth of the matter: Get catalogs from every supplier you can and compare before you buy.

I have used a number of souces in the last few years and Mustangs Unlimited was one of them. Overall I'd give them a C rating on fit, finish and quality. Their service from the Georgia location was deplorable ! In one particular instance I was flat footed LIED TO ! The kid on the phone assured me that the part would ship same day. I called back that afternoon for the tracking number which he never emailed me after promising he would. He said he didn't have it in front of him but the item would go out that day and I could get the tracking number the next business day. I called back the next day to get the number and they told me they were out of stock and would not be receiving a new shipment for X days. I was pissed ! I called Branda and had the item overnighted from them and it didn't fit either. That was my only experience with Branda.

On the other hand I have used two suppliers who have extended excellent service and products.

Don Witt at Ohio Mustang Supply. Don has always been most helpful and has delivered the goods as promised. The quality of the repro stuff is as good as anyones but the service is what sets Don apart. I will say though that you should always seek OEM panels when you can find or afford them. The aftermarket pieces are typically lacking.

The Bramletts at Mustangs Plus. Ron has also been straight up and delivered. I ordered a complete "Grab-A-Trak" suspension form them with a 1 inch lowering feature. Sway bars , springs , control arms etc... It was all fantastic ! It fit perfectly and the finish is very good. It took me a little while to get the decals peeled off of the shocks but they were worth every dime. The car rides, handles and goes a hell of a lot better than it ever did.

In closing let me say that SOARING is right. Outsourcing is killing us all. Buy American when you can. I don't mind telling you that it KILLED my expense account when I spent $ 1,200.00 on an NOS right rear quarter panel ... but it was money well spent. It fit like it was supposed to and it's genuine Ford. My old war horse is 98% Ford or American made service parts.

Please forward all of this to the folks at Mustangs Unlimited. They need to know what's going on in the Mustang community. I voiced my displeasure at the time of the incidents but they might need a wake up call from all of us.

Good luck, Dean

Yup,
When all of this is said and done, I am going to copy these replies and mail to Mustangs Unlimited. They need to know what enthusiasts out here are thinking (at least they should know and care). I originally like MU because they are about 90 miles from me and I would make a run there when I needed a lot of stuff. But as the incidents of poor quality parts got to add up, I have sworn off buying there. They did always delkiver the next day as promised, but now I will wait a day longer for NPD in Ocala Fl to send.

Yuo shoulda seen the Tri-Y headers and H-pipe I got from MU - didn't line up for beans on the right side. I finally chucked the stuff and went with JBA shorty headers and their H-pipe - fit like a glove! Anyone want some never run TRi-Y's?

It's good thing that they aren't one of our sponsors.

I agree that Mustang Unlimited should be told about their performance. Look at how large this forum is and they can't afford to have negative comments being made. Because of this, you can bet I won't be ordering anything through them. Thanks for the heads up.

Everytime i have bought from mustangs unlimited they have given me the wrong parts.
first it was the waterpump which they assured would fit. it didnt. Next they gave us a 2.00" h pipe instead of 2.25. The radiator shroud brackets i got from them dont fit right. today i got a grommet for my pcv valve which is the wrong size. (they said it was what i needed.)
I am getting fed up with this because everytime i want to work on my mustang they give me the wrong parts.

Maybe the rest of your mustang is the wrong size. lol

i bought my stainless steal bumper inserts from them, but they definantly have a service problem. I went to the store(like 5 mins away) and i asked if they had bumper inserts for an 03 mach 1 and they said they didnt and i should come back in a week. The guy remembered me and said that they did have them last week but he thought that they would say mach 1 instead of mustang. Teh nwhen i got rear ended the body shop i took it to ordered new ones from mustangs unlimited and they sent black ones. So they had to reorder stainless steal ones. I dont think it will be the last purchase i will make from them since they are so close but the service isnt good.

I got a part from MU that didn't fit but they were cool about taking it back.

I just think when you buy parts it's easy to have bad communication....even if you communicate exactly what you want the person on the other end might not be "getting" what you say. I will say the GA office of MU is definitely not run as well as the CT store. If I order from them then I order from the CT store.

Having said all this, the Virginia Mustang store has gone ONLINE and you can order there now.

http://www.virginiaclassicmustang.com/Catalog/shop/

Not the best designed site but I love them so they will get the majority of my business.

I would agree that it's easy to have a miscommunication on part description. However, every time I ordered from thme I was looking at one of their catalogs. When I ordered I was reading them the part number , item description and page number. It's darned hard to blame that on a miscommunication. They usually corrected their mistakes at their own expense but... the time lost and frustration was a pain in the ass. The bottom line may well be in the quality of their personnel.

EVERY friend I have who owns his own business has a horrible quality problem with their employees. In my area there are only a few folks who don't have a job and they're typically the folks who don't want them. Good employees are hard to find. You can blame it on wages or welfare. You can blame it on demographics or ethics. You can blame it on entitlement programs ( welfare) or the phase of the moon. None of that really matters but I have made my last purchase from Mustangs Unlimited.

Just my 2 cents, Dean

I have a funny story...

I emailed them a few weeks ago about their suspension kit and asked how much it would cost for 5" leafs and kyb gas shocks. Well, they finally emailed me back, but they edited the reply to make it look like I had emailed them the previous day, instead of two weeks ago. Kinda shady if you ask me.

i'm not rich by any means, plus i've taken several chinese history classes. so this statement just got under my skin.

i know you're trying to prove a point; yay to america and all of that stuff. but $1200 for a rear quarter panel? that's just stupid. for that price, they should have sent a crew to install it for you, and throw in a new hood to boot, plus free shipping. the fact is, we all know everything is made in china. the 20th century was reserved for america, but the 21st is for the pacific. it's a fact, and it's been known for about the last 20 years. sure, we use excuses like "it's cheaper in china" and "we're only using them to save a few bucks," but we all know that, when it comes to economy and technology, teh far east is johnny on the spot. america seems to be scared of this truth.

other things to be done w/ $1200:
-go to paris for 2 weeks
-buy a good running mid-90s car (most likely an import) which should last another 100k miles due to superior steel
-buy 1200 ****y chicken sandwiches. distribute to the needy and college students, or freeze for own usage.
-pay 1 month's rent plus bills in a 3 bedroom, 3 bath condo
-go to vegas
-build the crap out of a small block ford. race it.
-buy crown and coke. distribute to katrina victims. (i'm from new orleans, so it's ok)
-lay down about $115 for a quarter from laurelmountainmustang.com (which fits great by the way, both sides). invest remaining $1085.
-get a full cow and a full freezer. combine the 2. meat for a year.

/rant
whew ok sorry, i think it's because my chick's ragging and i couldn't get ass this morning. i apologize.

Let me begin by saying that I appreciate your sense of humor. I think it's important to approach such a sensitive subject with a good sense of humor. With that in mind, get a firm grip on yours as you read what I'm about to say... you're gonna need it.

With respect to being rich. I'm not wealthy by any fiscal measure. I am very picky and this car means a great deal to me, so I used only the best I could afford for the restoration. The sentimental value of my old mechanical friend is priceless and I was and am determined to care for her/it in the best manner possible. I'm not stupid either. I know that the investment in only the best parts will pay off if I were to ever offer the car for sale. I won't.

EVERYTHING is not made in China. Yes it's true that the Chinese people work for pennies compared to American laborers. Their living conditions are less pleasant, their government is more stringent ( don't forget they often perform grotesque procedures on the genitalia of their newborn female children ) , they are ruled by the heavy hand of a few and are led like sheep. Other than that I guess China is a great place to live.

I don't believe that any century, decade, year or even day is reserved for anyone. If the Chinese are willing to work for less, build an inferior product ( knockoff ) for less, or flood our shores with substandard quality products... so be it. NOWHERE is it written that we have to buy it. If you choose to support such foolishness, go ahead. You're part of the problem.

What to do with MY 1200.00...
Never been to Paris, not gonna go........ Don't like the Frenchies too damned much and they don't like me either. I'll make us both happy and refuse to contribute to their economy.

Not gonna buy an import at any price.......... I'll keep driving my American iron until the wheels fall off, then I'll buy new wheels. I like my 79 Indy F-150's ( 2 of them ) just fine as well as my 99 Interceptor Crown Vic and my 67 galaxie and my 67 Chevrolet C-10 and my 91 Thunderbird SC and my wifes 97 Tahoe. If all else fails I'll fire up my trusty 73 Mach 1 and get where I want to go. She hasn't failed me yet and it's been well over 3 decades. Again, I'm not rich. this is a lifetime of collecting.

I like ****y chicken sandwiches...... I'll probably buy that many anyway and eat them myself. You don't think i got to 6'4", 250 lbs by eating tofu do you ?

Rent and bills on a condo... Then I'd have to get a mistress. When the wife found out I'd lose at least half of my toys so I think I'll pass.

Been to Vegas...........liked it very much every time I went. Never spent 1200.00 on any trip though. I think my quarter panel was a better investment and the car gets a lot of attention so cute girls in skimpy clothes come around anyway. Not taking any of them home in either location so that's kind of a wash. Please refer back to mistress statement in previous topic.

Building a small block........ Not gonna get much for 1200.00 when it comes to build ups. I think I'll keep what I've got.

Crown & Coke........ I like New Orleans A LOT. Going back in a few months to do my part for Crown & Coke. I'll drink one for you while I'm there. I probably won't drink 1200.00 worth at one shot though. I'm too old and it hurts too much the next morning.

Laurel Mountain Mustang...... nice folks ! BUT if they don't have what I want/need, I'm not buying it. They did not have an NOS , Genuine Ford quarter at the time I needed it so I found one elsewhere.

The beef....... I like cows just fine and I'm doing my part for the beef industry. Again, 6'4" 250...

You girlfriends physical condition......... not much either one of us can do about that except get her pregnant. I'd rather you do that part. Again, I think my wife would frown on any such mis-behavior on my part and I'd lose half of my toys.

Here's the whole deal in a nutshell. The Chinese people work for less because they have to. They are controlled by a dictatorial style of government and ruled with an iron fist. The Chinese and the Pacific in general have become extremely adept at copying ( also called knock offs ) US technology. I do not and WILL NOT EVER believe that Chinese quality is better than ours. Yes the Japanese build fine quality autos and many of them are built right here in our country. However, Japanese quality is much different than Chinese. You can spend your hard earned US currency on cheap imports if you like and I won't call you stupid. What I will call you is an enabler.

Your purchases make it easier for knock off manufacturers to rape their employees. You are contributing to the oppression of millions of people in third world countries for generations to come. Do you really believe that the workers in Taiwan, Malaysia , China , or any of the other like countries are treated properly with respect to wages , benefits and conditions ?

I'm not suggesting that you should spend every dime to buy American but I am suggesting that if you can afford to buy American... YOU SHOULD !!!! Remember if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

NOW.... go hop in your Honda and cruise on down to Wal-Mart to get your girl some Midol. And while you're at it get yourself a good look at everything on their shelves brought into this country from an outside source. Those are jobs lost my friend and millions of US workers out of a job.

I think I'm gonna go wax my car. I'll pay extra attention to the right rear quarter knowing that it's money well spent. I'll never forget that rainy September night in 1981 when I crashed her through a fence. It was then that I ruined her original quarter so badly. The body shop who repaired her did a ****ty job which necessitated a proper repair 20 + years later. I guess it's a good thing that it was an Arkansas State Trooper who investigated my accident at the time.... a Chinese cop would have shot me for breaking the speed limit. Dean

Pick up an issue of Mustangs Monthly and look at their ads, tons of other vendors in there. I ordered from John's Mustang and I was happy. Mustangs Unlimited steered me off cause they seem pricy.

the products price isnt usually what steers me away....its the shipping thats either reasonable or ridiculous......many of them are ridiculous....when it cost you more in shipping than it did for your one item....something is wrong.

Trophy Mustang seems to have the best shipping prices. They carry basically scott drake parts...so im assuming those turn out good since its a rather popular name.
