Dearborn is closing!!!! the birthplace of the mustang, is closing! WHy!?! i can understand any other plants, But the original first ford plant! is anyone else having a hard time comprehending this?
the Wixom plant, the birthplace of the mustang in dearborn is closing.
the last mustang rolled off the lines monday morning while Mustang Sally was being played throughout the entire plant. a cherry red 2004 mustang GT convertible.
now the mustangs will be built at Flat Rock plant. 30 miles south of detroit.
Yes, the plant had old technology compared to the other plants, and it wouldve been too costly to update it....
Im not sure why it was a 2004, i wouldve thought it was a 2006, well it was the 40th anniversary, so maybe that.
I thought they stopped producing mustangs at Dearborn after the run of the 04s? I thought I remembered hearing that mustangs were being produced elsewhere for the new ones? But maybe I'm wrong. I'll see if I can find the article on it.
I was having trouble understanding the meaning of this thread until a few responses into it........mustang production ended at wixom with the 2004 model. The 2005 and newer mustangs...which is the S197 platform mustangs......has been exclusively built at a newer plant in Flat Rock, Michigan and we are proud to build it there. We are also building the new Shelby in Flat Rock,too........
