If you only have a 5.0 and it's not modded...You won't beat one....There capable of high 13's..</P>
03trubluestang 02-12-2004, 02:58 PM be very afraid if he's upped the boost
DUB 6 02-12-2004, 03:18 PM be very afraid if he's upped the boost There running 15 psi STOCK......that's unbelieveable....A stock or lightly modded 5.0 stands no chance against one.
iwrxit 02-12-2004, 03:23 PM srt's will do ya from a roll. i havent come across too many heavily modded one's and i dont race the ones on my team.

five0 02-13-2004, 01:40 AM i'm pretty sure it was stock, it still had the dealership tag on it.. .. and yes i am slighty modified....</P>

horatio102 02-13-2004, 01:51 AM SRT's are fast stock, and they're stupid-easy to modify. You can roll into just about any Dodge dealer and fork over a stack of $ for a stage 1 kit that bumps power up to 240hp/260ft-lbs, stage 2 and 3 are "late availability" so who knows when they'll hit, but they're 265/285 on pump gas, 280/300 for 100+ octane race gas on the stage 2, and stage 3 is 300/300 on pump gas.
And that's not including gains from exhaust work.
And it's from DODGE!
It'll cost me about $4500 to get my Jetta up to 290hp/300ft-lbs, but it's my daily driver so I'm not going to bother.
pSicho 02-13-2004, 02:14 AM yet when i show a video of one rolling the dynos to the tune of500 hp it's a POS... <IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">
Jugador1 02-13-2004, 02:16 AM nobody said pos, but so many other cars put down 500 too. it's like the first woman in space...yeah, its still cool to go in space, but so many men had already done it before her.
pSicho 02-13-2004, 02:30 AM riiight...it's a completely different situation. Thats the first I've seen an Srt4make 500 hp. Sure small block V8s have done it, but they've been doing that since the 60s. This isn't a small block V8, this is a 2.4L inline four.
horatio102 02-13-2004, 07:17 AM would you two quit bickering all over the place like a couple of schoolgirls after the same guy? Please.
There are two things wrong with the SRT-4
1) It's a Neon, and as such it's made by DaimlerChrysler, and therefore has suspect reliability.
2) It's FWD. Lots of cars are FWD, but true driver's cars drive at least the rear wheels.
But it's a Dodge, and has ma mopar behind it, so it's wicked cool.
I wish my Jetta had a real limited slip differential, instead of the EDL which senses a 100+rpm difference between the front wheels and grabs the fast one's brake to even it out. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">
SilverGTV8 02-13-2004, 10:25 AM I ran into one last nite. It wasn't even funny how bad I beat it. 20deg nite from a dead stop spinning 1st and 2nd and still put 2 car lengths on him. Everyone I have run into has not impressed me. Everyone of them I have beaten. </P>
BTW it doesn't matter how fast it is, it is still a neon. My grandmother drives one<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>
five0 02-13-2004, 11:54 AM the guy i was racing must not have been that good or something b/c this srt4 didn't put up much of a fight, might have been the drive tho.

haha not everyone wants to race all the time. If you beat him thats cool, but I've had people take off on me like I was racing them or something...hell I even had my sign on my window when I was working and someone took off like we were racing...lol</P>
An SRT4 is NOTHING like any of the Neons for sale...different engine, transmission, rims, body kit, hood. The only real similarity between a Neon and SRT4 is the body styleitself. <IMG src=smileys/smiley1.gif border="0"></P>
SilverGTV8 02-13-2004, 03:03 PM He raced. He iniated the race. Plus he threw the signature ricer rev! LOL

Really? Where did you get those #'s? There just seemed to be too much body roll. I just finished a WRX testdrive and the stiffness in chassis was NO comparison. </P>

iwrxit 02-13-2004, 07:13 PM wrx pulls about .86-.87 but are set up for the dirt. neons arent. plus they just arent cool. i have a 96 neon and it sucks.

You can't compare a Base/SXT/RT neon to an SRT4. There simply is no comparison. The SRT4 is a completely different beast than that of it's little borther counterparts, the SRT4 has it's own suspension setup, own exhaust setup, own engine and transmission, it has it's own set of 17" rims...it's Not a normal Neon.</P>
DUB 6 02-14-2004, 02:50 PM I ran across one last night in my twin turbo monster. He started reving his engine and laughing.Wish it would havebeen dry. I don't race in the rain. I would havedestroyed his butt.

Honestly, who cares what they pull on the skid pad. TheSRT's are faster than the WRX and they look alot better. WRX's are the ugliest cars on the road today.</P>

pSicho 02-14-2004, 04:57 PM check out the MPH, 94, if that driver had a decent 60 foot time he would be trapping 14.1s. EVERY OTHER publication I have EVER seen since the March 2001 introduction of the WRX has read anywhere from 14.0-14.5. Now that is NOT a 14.7 whichis a big difference on the 1/4 mile track.</P>

Granny must have been driving it....No offense Granny's if there's any of you on here..</P>
Man if you do this in your 99+GT there's no way you won't run high 13's very low 14's. considering the road and your tire conditions</P>
1. Lauch it at 1500 RPM. That's not too high (so no excessive wheel spin)and it'snot too low, (so no boggin down when you launch)...Not much wheel spin at all.</P>
2. Power shift from first to second</P>
3. Shift 3rd and 4th normal...Make every shift at about 5300 RPM....</P>
WRX's get their low ET's from getting a good launch. They slow down alot after second gear. Neons are alot faster...because it's not AWD.</P>

I'm still not understanding how powershifting helps on street tires. It only makes me break them loose and spin uncontrolably until I left off throttle. Someone said this about the new Cobra too, that it should powershift 1st and 2nd. Maybe 3rd and 4th.....
DUB 6 02-14-2004, 07:28 PM Well i always used this technique when i had my 86 GT too. It never let me down. Powershifting when used first and second will keep you close enough, so when you catch Third his ass will be yours. Most GT's power doesn't kick in until about 3rd or so, as forthe WRX it'sstrongest asset is it's launching ability. You can't screw around with it from a dead start...You must do what you can to stay as close as possible until 3rd....then it's just like they've turned the key off...You will blow past them. Trust me...I've beaten many of them here when my stang was all stock. I don't think racing is racing unless you race them from a stop. It's more personal that way. Not to mention more fun. <IMG src=smileys/smiley15.gif border="0">...Screw that rolling off crap. <edited><editID>00banditv8</editID><editDate>38031.7315740741</editDate></edited>
