Hey guys! I just picked an '06 Torch Red GT Convetible...I had purchased it with intentions of storing for the next 20+ years...but now...want to drive it EVERYWHERE!! I am stuck and dont know what to do..I know most of you would think I am nuts for wanting to put it away and NOT drive it...I thought of it as more of an investment that I could drive from time to time...now I am not so sure.Either way..The one and only time I drove it was enough for me to say I WANT MORE..so we will see what happens...maybe I'll come up with a milage cap..and only drive it till it has like 5000 miles on it or something.Regardless I love the car.Pics will be up soon.

Good luck trying not to drive it. I'm the same way. I love driving it, but don't want the miles on it. At least it will only be drove in nice weather. Will be put away in the garage during the winter.

BlackFoxGT -> RE: Just take delivery on your 05/06 GT? Brag here! (5/2/2006 1:47:27 PM)

Took delivery on the oh so beautiful 22 day of aprill 2006.....

This car is amazing i love it to death....Im only 19 and im living in germany, the autobahn is literaly 5 minuts away from where i live, so you can imagine the fun im having.
I got back from the desert with a pocket full of cash and went straight to the dealership.....im sure you all have noticed how many looks your mustang gets...well imagine if your stang was swimming through a pool of old vw golfs and a bunch of other uropean cars, Ive been pulled over by the politzi (police) twice just because they wanted to look at the car. I go to alot of car shows over here to spectate and end up finding a group of people around my car in the parking lot when i leave, and its stock ... i can only imagine what they would do if they saw a moded stang ...well anyways im a new member and am looking forward to participating in this forum [:D].

Just bought the wife an '06 black convertable for her birthday. Red leather interior. Planned mods include CDC Shaker hood, chin spoiler and clear tail lights. Don't tell her, but, I'm as excited as she is. I would include a picture but it says the file is too large. I will post again when I have a lower res picture.

Hello,
We ordered our '06 Screaming Yellow Convertible GT Back in May 05. Took delivery of the first 06 convertible to reach Alaska on Oct 5, 2005. (car came in in Sept but I was out of town for a few weeks) We placed our order before any 06 brochers were avalible so the only thing I wish I could have ordered that I didn't was the 18' wheels. Who says convertibles aren't winter cars? We drove it in temps of -32F and still didn't have to have the heater on full blast. Put a set of studded Pirelli winter carving at all 4 corner and the car got around great all winter. Well to the tune of last week we just rolled over the 10,000 mile mark. Traction control was great! Way quicker to react the the traction control in our 05 Denali. These pics were taken about 10 miles from our house. You guys have very nice cars thanks for pics!
05SDI

Well when I figure out how to post a pic I guess you see...

Silencer06 -> RE: Just take delivery on your 05/06 GT? Brag here! (5/18/2006 12:32:29 AM)

Just bought my '06 GT Coupe Premium this past Sunday the 14th, and man, I'm loving it so far.....gas prices be damned!!! This beauty is black with the black leather seats, and I opted to get one without the IUP because I just love the look of all black with just enough chrome inside this muscle car. It just works perfectly with it! It's also got the Shaker 1000, which I didn't necessarily need or want (the 500 would have been plenty for me), but I'm here to tell you, this thing was made for Joe Satriani's guitar work, as it sounds better than I've ever heard it before!!! The 1000 is just about the only "option" it has, but I like it as is....plain and simple and ready to burst.

I've been wanting a Mustang since the early 80's but never even test drove one until this past weekend. As soon I saw the new body style on the '05 models, I knew I had to have one and told the wife it was happening when I retire from the Air Force. Well, I haven't retired yet (just a few more months), but just telling her that got her interested too, and as soon as I knew she was hooked, it was just a matter of time before we actually dropped the dough and drove off with one. We started looking hard a few weeks ago but never drove one, then this past Saturday I went to one dealer hoping he could find me a black coupe with a manual transmission and 18" tires, but the only one he claimed he could find was in Oregon (I live in Olympia WA).....and it didn't have the 18" wheels I wanted. Well as you can imagine, they used the distance as their leverage to keep from negotiating with me on a good price for it, insisting the manuals are too hard to come by to lower their prices, especially because they had to have it delivered (whatever!!!!). Well after telling him my own max price and hearing him say no for the umpteenth time, I finally walked out and headed south to look at other models. I found a white manual trans at another dealer but just didn't want white (although it was VERY tempting), so the wife broke me down and suggested I test the beautiful black auto that was calling my name.....and I absolutely fell in immediate love. Even though I always wanted a manual and did like the way the white one shifted and handled during the test drive, the automatic just feels faster and more responsive....whether auto is deemed "classic" or not! However, I'm already tired of people telling me "you can't buy a Mustang in an auto!!" Ummmm, well sure you can, and I did and have zero regrets!

So anyway, as soon as I can figure out how to do it, I'm going to add a photo to my signature because the car is now a part of me.

Looking forward to hearing from a few of you about some suggested simple mods for her. I know I'm going to at least put a K&N air filter in it and some window louvers on the rear sides, but what other suggestions do you have? I want to keep her as close to stock as possible, but I'm open to suggestions and anyone daring to get me hooked on "more".

Nick

Hey Nick:

Congrats! Good Story. Did you get the 18" wheels? And if so, what kind. I also always liked mustangs and rememberd one that I liked in particular from the early seventies and got one that looks just like it. Auto is fine, no clutch burning in traffic.

Let us know what options this one has.

Starman

Silencer06 -> RE: Just take delivery on your 05/06 GT? Brag here! (5/21/2006 2:21:15 PM)

For Starman....nope, I didn't end up getting the 18" wheels after all, but for a reason. The car I bought had the 17" wheels and when I asked about upgrading to 18", the dealer said it would cost me around $3K. Whether they were lying to me for some reason or not, I wasn't about to pay that and figured I'd use the savings on the overall cost to buy some wheels later. Now that I have the car though, I kinda like the 17". I don't know what the added performance benefits would be to go to 18" or even to 20", but I'm not going to race this thing and really don't think the cost would be worth performance changes I might gain by going larger. For me it's just about the cosmetic appeal of the larger profile wheels, because as I said, I won't be racing it (except on the highway).....but the car is beautiful enough already with the 17" wheels. Dunno....I may just wait until I wear out and have to replace these tires and then I'll go to the larger wheels.

In any case, you also asked about other options it has, but it doesn't really have any. It's the GT Premium model so it has all the standard upgrades that don't come with the GT deluxe, but that's not really that much more. As I said, it doesn't have the IUP because I like the basic black much better (and I think the IUP has TOO much satin aluminum anyway), and it's got the Shaker 1000. Honestly, Ford doesn't offer a whole lot of other options on the Mustang (which I admire...just keep it simple) so I don't really know what else to add....except that it's got the alarm and the wheel locks! Woo hoo!

Wow! Sweet cars everyone, I love to see everybody's baby's. They make us so proud, don't they??

When I saw my baby on eBay back at the end of feb. even though it was three states away in some city on the gulf coast of Texas I had to have it. New 2005 Triple Black Mustang GT premium convertible, Roush sport package complete with factory sticker on the doorsill with the aerobody kit including the front chin spoiler, and Roush rear exit high performance exhaust, convertible roll bar, carbon fiber and Roush instrument cluster interior upgrade. Wow! Not to mention the fact that I was getting almost 5k off of MSRP and 1.9% financing. Then the decision.. wait possibly 4 weeks to have it transported to me in Arizona, (an eternity when you put serious money down on the Stang of your dreams) or fly down and drive it back. After comparing the total prices and the mileage (32o miles from only 40) I ended up flying down with my husband at the last minute with only two days left before I had to go back to work. After calling to arrange insurance at the layover in Houston when I got to the dealer they claimed they hadnt received some bank approval and they couldn't release the Mustang yet. However they were very cool letting me start up and rev an 05 281 S/C and get this... an 05 Ford GT!!! Finally everything was straightened out and after getting only five miles down the road I checked the radar detector one last time and stomped on it!! Freaking sweet!! Top down, wind screaming, driving into the Texas sunset at eventually 125 mph, but since it was only a one lane road my husband made me let up. Plus apparently the convertible boot is not rated for speeds topping 100 mph! I can't wait for bacseat tonneau covers for the 05/06's. Anyways, after staying up over 48 hours straight I made it back the night before I had to be at work... but then called in to play with it. I just can't get enough of that exhaust's deep growl, as if I need any more excuse to step on the pedal. ;)

edlong -> RE: Lucky to get my new GT! (5/24/2006 8:59:08 PM)

My new 2006 Mustang GT Premium has finally arrived! It was a little nerve racking since I put a deposit on it over a week ago and I wasn't getting good vibes from the dealer. In my area it seems manual is not in abundance, and there's no way I was getting an automatic. My definate needs were Vista Blue, GT Premium, Manual, Black Leather Interior, Premium Interior Upgrade Package. I would have loved the 18' wheels, but I'm pleasantly surprised with the 17s. Thought I was going to have to get new rims asap. They wanted to sell me a black GT convertible on the lot for about $33K. While it was nice, I just felt like the vista blue was the way to go. Although I had never seen a real car in the color. The dealer did a 250 mile search and found 1 car that matched my specs (minus the 18' wheels). I put a deposit on it Monday and he say's he'll have it by Wed. Wed comes and goes, and it's Thurs now, thurs comes and goes and it's Fri.... What's up! I didn't get it until the next Tuesday! The dealer gives me this story.

First, the car hadn't even been delivered to the other dealer's lot yet, and he wasn't keen on giving this puppy away, his only vista blue, and had plenty of black. My dealer had to send a Black convertible GT and a big Ford 350 truck to get it. Even then it was iffy because the other dealer said that his buddy had first crack at the car, if he wanted it. He then says that the minute it's on the lot a chick came in and wanted to trade her, brand new, windveil blue right then and there. I did not know any of this at the time, and maybe it's just a good tale, but it came through and I'm loving it.

Everyone in the dealership, other than the salesman were loving the car. Everywhere I stopped, Autozone today to get a sun shield, people just love the car and the color. AZ was funny because a group of people are discussing the car, I'm come to check out and they're like "is that youuur car". You Betcha. I know this color and config are all over California (based on the Ford site), but not in the Northeast.

The first day was a little cloudy, so the car doesn't shine, but the second day I took some after a long drive and it looks, sounds and drives great!

First thing is some window tinting. Then maybe white or silver racing stripes, haven't decided on the color. So much more after that......
