I haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face since last Wednesday. To better understand, here is my car history: '82 Jetta '87 Corolla '91 Infiniti G20 '01 Corolla '06 GT Premium, Automatic, Black Clearcoat/Dark Charcoal, Interior upgrade, Shaker 500, 18" wheels, Anti theft system. My wife made me do it. Seriously, she was the instigator. We have always been careful with $ and made "sensible" choices re: house, car, clothing, etc. I was going to wait until the wife/family car (Honda Pilot) was paid off before I indulged myself, which was going to take about a year and by which time I was hoping the new Dodge Challenger would be available. Then I unexpectedly received a sum of money that made it possible for me to write a check for my new car. I was nonetheless going to make a sensible choice and put it toward home improvements or retirement savings. Wife laughed and would hear none of it. I realized it was now or never, Challenger be damned! I have always loved the early 'Stangs - fastbacks especially - but never felt anything special toward recent versions...until 05+. Some people say a car reflects the owner's personality, but I had yet to find a non-classic vehicle that suited me until now. I hunted and hunted until I found the one I wanted - Windveil Blue - and was on the verge of driving the 60 miles to the dealer who had it to make a deal when something in my head whispered, "Get it in black, get it in black...". Ran down to my local dealer Wed. night about an hour before they closed, found and test drove the one I wanted, haggled with the slightly disgruntled salesperson, signed the papers and brought it home. Now I keep looking for excuses to run errands around town. I spent the first couple of days driving it super gentle, but I'm finding it really just wants to go fast. I can't stop thinking about mods for looks/sound/HP and think I am experiencing the beginnings of an addiction. And I'm not sorry in the least. Oh, and I'm glad I got black instead of blue.
