Default smoke coming out of the defros

yesterday i was driving and noticed my windshield fogging up a little right above my defrost vent, and a small amount of smoke is coming out. also from the hood right in front of the windshield. car seems to be running just fine, i'm at a loss. anybody got any ideas?<IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0">

Default smoke coming out of the defros

Did you have the defrost / climate control on? It may not be smoke, but actually steam, and that is what is fogging your windshield. If so, you have a bad heater core. Check in the engine compartment on the bottom side of the firewall in front of where the heater core should be, if it's wet where the drain hole is on the firewall, that means the heater core is leaking...shot!

that was my very first thought. it does it wether its on or not. i also noticed that the vents don't blow air for s**t. and a little water dripped onto my foot while i was driving. damnit last thing i need is more s**t to fix.</P>

talked to my mechanic, he's gonna hook me up with a bypass till the i can replace it on the 1st. <IMG src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0">

Replacing the HC on your own can be a real pain in the ass! If you have the extra cash, i'd let the local garage do it, if not, you can do it, it's just uasually a bitch!

I know its a bitch on the 79-93's but how bad are they on the newer ones?I've yet to change one or have to screw with one.After the 79-93's i didnt think they got any worse to do?Maybe i was wrong how bad just for future reference?

I haven't personally replaced one in the newer ones, but from what i understand, they are a little easier, but still not fun!

thier never fun..to bad it's still winter as it could wait...if a dealer does it your looking at 4-6 hours labor<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0">
