my 89 has 190K on the stock motor no mods but no air silencer & cat back & a t5 . I am going to swap the stock 2.73's with 3.55's this month & think that should give me a noticeable kick. but what can I do to this motor without it genading 10 miles later. the motor is suprisingly solid I have put 10k on it no oil loss at all never added a quart in 4000 miles between changes oil pressure is good & no smoke at all bought it from the orig owner a 65 year old man.

want more gettup & go thinking heads & headers or a supercharger & running low boostbut want it to last a year or two till I am done dumping $$$ in my Olds.

you have other cars to drive. .30 rebuild kit is under 500 for good one machine shop work under 800. blow that old ass engine with a 500 shot tryin to run 8s then rebuild it.

IT IS NICE TO BE IMPORTANT, BUT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
will added a big power added will grenade that engine...throw on some bolts on so you can them use them on the next egine..I would build another engine while driving the car...
so equal length headers,76mm maf,2.5" h-pipe,pulleys and some 1.7 rockers should help alot.as well as some sticky tires and a 100 pounds off the car as well as the battert being put in the trunk
you start adding compression in that engine oil consumption may start
convert to carb, and h/i/c
you need to quit suggesting this all the time.
at that type of mileage you can do the intake, exhaust,tb,heads, but anything else will be pushing it or just useless. installing a cam at that mileage will be pointless. you can do it but save the time and effort for a new motor. same with heads. as far as a forced induction or spraying it, i personally wouldnt do it. unless you dont care at all if it blows up.

why, honestly not every person needs to hear about carbs if the person asks specificly about carbs then give him the advice on it. I know i would be pissed if some kid kept suggestiong something that i had no concern about.

Not to start a war but a carb is not an option EFI may take a little power but it more then makes up for it on that -10 degree morning & dont need any hassle with the smog nazi's.

I would not do a cam.Did one years ago on a car with 80k & spun a main 3 weeks later dont know if it was related but I assume it was.

I drive the car 90% of the time in the summer not mutch in the winter but live driving with the top down & cantjustifydriving the Olds much (6mpg)so thestang is the perfect summer car. its justi had a 88 hatch back in the early 90's & back then not much would take it now I can get smoked by 4-doors everything has 300hp now just trying to keep my youthfull memories alive.

Gears baby. if you want more power without going into the motor or getting serious with stuff like s/c nitrous etc.. to me gears would be the way to go. Especially since you are running "highway gears". Personally I would go with 3:73 or even lower, but I dont have long daily commutes. If you go more than 20 miles one way per day I would use 3:73s. surely you know though that you will sacrafice mileage with this.
