Default is it safe to remove the Catalytic Converter?

Hi guys just saw this check it out http://www.alternativeauto.com/prods...tang_tune.html they said it gave an extra 4 horse power so my question is it safe to remove the catalytic converter from the intake track on my 2005 gt? or will it damage the car.

I wouldn't do it for 4 hp's. But i don't see how it could potentially damage the car, however it may void your warranty on some parts. Plus i think it is illegal in most states.

You confused me there for a moment...trying to figure out how the "catalytic converter" was on the intake. Until I looked at the article. Now it makes more better sense

That used to be called the carbon trap. Removing it IS going to give you a performance nudge. I would say probably 99% of the cars out there that had them now have them removed. Ford quit sometime late in the 05 run even putting them on the cars. Yes, yank it out. BUT...do a search first on carbon trap before you do, will give you some pointers on the easiest way to get it out.

depending on when yours was manufactured it may not have one. mine did not come with one. and lidio said they stopped installing the carbon trap in mid 05.

You are talking out of your ass. If Ford no longer puts them on the vehicles ( 2nd time I have said this now ) how is that going to get your car taken away. You could remove the entire exhaust system and put LTs and straight pipes on and it won't get your car "taken away".

jeeez people get all pissed off at eachother!!! I guess he is actuallt talking about the "PRE-catalytic converter", which is the carbon trap. So yes Speedeamon...it is safe to remove it if you are talking about this carbon trap.
