I understand that 4 cyl. had a 7.5".  That was not my question.  The axle that I have came from an unknown fox body car.  The axle tag is unreadable.  The axle is 3.73, limited slip with disc brakes.  The question is if Ford ever created this axle in a 7.5"?  The size of the ring gear is somewhat tough to eyeball.

Oh, sorry.  The SN95 and New Edge used the 7.5" rear, so the disc brakes would be there.  However, the 3.73 would be aftermarket.  This will help you eye-ball it a little better, though.

Well, it turns out that both of these axles that I have are 7.5".  I guess my plan for now is to go ahead and put the one together with the new bearings and at the very least, use it as a place holder until I get a 8.8" housing.  Since I already have 31 spline axles and a differential for a 8.8" a housing will be all I need.  The one axle that I have that was a disc brake axle may have come out of an SN95, but the part numbers on the ring gear would have lead one to believe it to have come from a fox body.  Oh well it did show signs of having been apart before, so it is definitely possible that someone put an older differential into a newer housing.

I;ve been looking for a set of genuine FRPP 9" gears for months, as far as i can tell Ford don;t make em anymore.
(they do make 8.8" i know)
FRPP gears are the only gears that i can find that don;t come with some kind of whine at speed.
If you or anyone here knows where to find a set of genuine Ford 9"ers, 3:70;s to 3:89's do let me know

I thouhgt all 5.0's were 8.8", once you add V-8 they also added the 8.8"
never seen a wimpy 7.5 in a V-8
at least they are here in Canada.
your gears - just spin a wheel & count driveshaft revolutions to one turn of your wheel, could be anything from 2:50's to 3:73;s

Factory will generally be 2.73 or 3.08 for the V8 models.

All V8's come from the factory with the 8.8" rear end.  The 4-cyl and 6-cyl models come with the 7.5" rear, unless you're in the early 80's late 70's time period, where the big 6's came with the 8.8"

i think im going to go with some 4.30's for my auto vert. Im going to see how fast i can get this thing to go on a pretty much stock motor. While i start building on in my garage. Im picking up a daily driver wens. so i wont have to drive it around all the time.DONT FEAR THE GEAR.

ever wonder what size tire would fit on a 18x9 rim or what a set of 4.10 gears would do to your top speed?  well, I did, so I created a spreadsheet that calculates these for you

I would like to hear your comments..

Wow very nice. This will come in handy for a LOT of people.

Hi everyone. I have an 06 GT with auto trans. I don't know what rear end gears I have. I will never race, dont care about gas mileage, but I just love to tromp it around town. What gears do you think I have now? What's the best setup for me barring that I don't have a 5 speed. Thanks!!

Hi. Just doing research and I was looking at Ford drag packs. I noticed that they sell a pack with 3.73's for the auto trans and a pack with 4.10's for the manual. This seems to be the opposite of what I've heard people recommending here on these threads. Any idea what Ford's reasoning might be? Thanks.

The torque converter of an auto lets the engine rev a little higher right off the bat, allowing the use of higher speed gear ratios.

I see. The lower the numbers the higher the speed? Thanks for the info.
