ok so i went with 3.73 gears through motive which is now a ford racing product i paid 365 for the full set and everything to put them in then 150 to put them in but thats canadian so i prolly dont count lol
counting the revs on wheel and drive shaft ain't real accurate just buy a gasket get off your lazy but and count the teeth on the ring & pinion then divide ring by pinion i personally like a 3.73 it performs good and you can stay under 4 grand at highway speeds just depends on what you want stay with the 7.5 till it breaks
I have a 2001 mustang gt 5 speed with bassani o/r xpipe, mac CAI, High flow injectors, mac underdrive pulleys, and i think 3.73...I want to get better acceleration like 4.10 but do some highway driving and was wondering would 4.10 work or should i go with 3.90. I dont want to be at 4 to 5 thousand RPM's constantly while driving around. Let me know guys cause i want to get them soon.
I got an 02 v6 convertible 5 speed and I dont know what gear mine is. Also i want to upgrade and I would like to have something that gives me more pep, but still is all around good on the gas.
I understand completely about ur gear havoc. I have 4.10 gears in my 88 mustang gt but thats 4 drag purposes. It depends on if ur car is manual or automatic. If ur car is automatic u can usually go as high as 355 and still have the sunday drive affect u r lookin 4, but if u have a standard shift u can go lower becuz u have the extra gears. I am thinkin about switchin from 410's to 373's bcuz I want 2 b able 2 come off hard and still roll to the big end. It all depends on what u want and what kind of transmisson u have.

i would go either 3 73 or 410 both really good my buddys 95 rips and he has 373 and my other buddy has 410 and rips but not really that sweet ont the highway but also can do 3rd gear burnouts whenever
i have a question about setting up my rear end on my 92 mustang. my friend recently wrecked his rear end and had to buy a new one. he had 3.55 in his car and gave them to me for free. i know a little about the specs and i can easily access a press, but my question is about the crush washer. the first attempt i made failed miserably, i guess it was because the crush washer wasn't crushed completely. i had play front to back with the pinion. i know the pre load for used bearings are around 15 ft lbs and new bearings 25-30 ft lb. does this mean when i apply the 15 ft lbs it will crush the crush washer completely? thanks

thanks anyways guys i figured it out. hit with a 1/2 impact till there is no play and you get a slight drag when turning the yoke. check the blacklash.(mine was .10). and mark the gears.the pattern looks good, gonna put back together on weds. hope it works
Sorry to cut in, but I have a question about gears. This may sound stuipd but, I have never own a car. If I were to buy Ring gear and pinion set on line would a shop install them for me? I found an set on newtakeoff.com and was not sure if this would work to buy my own parts.

depends on the shop. i would ask them first before i bought anything. i know i looked into that before i decided to do it myself and it basically didn't save me money at all. remember they're in that business to make money so they want to use their own parts.
no you could not not order 3.73's in '89 not in a mustang only ford trucks and a towing package.
yes the only 3 available were 2.73, 3.08 and 3.27 aod only
the code tag in the door shows the codes: m=2.73 z=3.08 e=3.27
The door tag on my AOD 92 LX 5.0 is "M = 2.73". The "Fox-body Mustang Recognition Guide" states that all 5.0 Liter1992 AOD cars came with 3.27 gears only because it was the only ratio available to 5.0 AOD's? Is there any other simple way of confirming what gears were really installed in my cars rear from factory?
I run 325s in my ranchero and love them, perfect for street and highway with a non world T5, 1st gear is real low as you know and the 325s give me a lot of top end 160+ last weekend next to a Viper, of course the motor I built helps a lot, a little ol 302 block / 289 hipo internals balanced & shaved and only 410 HP eats chevy's like a garbage disposal eats celery and sucks the head lights out of those ever present rice rocket's.
OK, I am building a 91 notch strictly for the strip. I am going to go with a 3.73. The question that I have is: Did Ford ever make a 7.5" limited slip with a 3.73 and rear disc brakes? The reason I ask is that I have that very axle and when I throw a tape across the ring gear it measures closer to 8" than 8.8" which leads me to believe it may be a 7.5"
It is an axle for a fox body because it has the pucks for the upper control arms. I just cant imagine Ford would make that axle in a 7.5. As far as I recall, the only cars that had the disc brake rears prior to 94 were the cobra's, the lincolns and some of the t'birds.
If you KNOW the answer, please reply. I really need to have an 8.8 as opposed to the 7.5
