Nope. Still 7.5. Now just think what it would feel like with 4.10 gears...

Ok, so i found out from mustangspecs site that these are my gear ratios V6 Model GT Model 1st 3.35:1 3.37:1 2nd 1.99:1 1.99:1 3rd 1.33:1 1.33:1 4th 1.00:1 1.00:1 5th 0.68:1 0.67:1 Final Drive 3.15:1 3.22:1 So, what does that mean? when you say gear ratio of 4.1 .. do you mean the first gear has 4.1 engine rotation to 1 wheel rotation ratio? or which gear is it ? Also, I have an automatic transmission with 4 speed gear. How does that work in that case. I know when I put it in drive the car changes gear from 1 to 3 or 4 as required. But, .. I am not sure if these gears are same as the ones I can choose my shifting the gear lever myself. Can some one clarify? Thnaks a lot.

so if i wanna improve my 1st gear acceleration without killing my overdrive in my 96 GT auto..i should use 3.55 gears? i still have the stock ones so im looking to see which ones are good for a race or two during the weekend while keeping the car with good fuel economy for work on the week

I have the 3.73 gears in mine. You might be interested to know that I still get the epa 16/25 miles per gallon! First gear is really deep with 3.73s ! The car is an 86 efi GT

quote:
ORIGINAL: Buzzstang MORE THAN LIKELY YOU HAVE A 7.5 REAR END AND I WOULD RECOMEND THAT YOU CHANGE IT OUT FOR AN 8.8 REAR. THE GEARS ARE PROUBALLY 2.73. I WOULD GO BACK WITH SOME 3.55 BECAUSE YOU WULL NOT HAVE ANY OVERDRIVE UNLESS THIS IS JUST GOING TO BE A RACE CAR. Easiest way if you have the cover off is to count the teeth on the ring and pinion then divide the ring number by the pinion.

Its not bad replacing the ring and pinion alone. But, as long as you're in there, you might as well replace the bearings. You can get a kit that will give you everything you need for 80 bucks or so from summit. The only bad thing is that you need a press or one of the bearing removal tools to change the side bearings in the carrier. If your posi unit and axles are still in good working shape, why go through the hastle of replacing the whole rear end? You should be able to find someone to do the labor for under $300 or so.

Just a quick questions, I'm about to order Motive 4.10 gears. My Mustang has 49,000 miles on it. should i get a bearing kit, or is that something i can add on later after i get the gears? The reason i ask is, because people say if you stang has more the 60K miles you should do it, i'm right on that verge so i'm not sure, please help thanks.
