This whole gear change thing has me about nuts. I have 02 GT, lot of bolt on stuff already on it. This GT is manual.. thats my problem. Most guys I talked to say I would be disappointed with anything but 4:10s. This car is lucky to get 5000 miles a year and I don't race it, other than smokin some local ricers I see on the way to work. So with those facts, can I safely run 4;10S or go 373s. I did some pricing and I can buy ford racing ring & pinion and the kit with all the shims, gaskets race and bearings cheaper than Richmond, Jegs. Summit is cheaper. I would think using factory parts would be the the thing to do. Am I right?

Steve PS K&W transmission will install for 175 to 200. K&W is a 3rd Generation company here and have done work for me before.
Install price sounds great. I had a local race shop install mine for $250.00. Another shop quoted me around $600! SCREW THAT!
How much did they quote you for the gears?? Are they FRPP?

V8 should have the 8.8. V6 will have the 7.5
Go with 4.10's. You will lose a LITTLE top end, but you will get there a LOT faster!

go 3.55 for all around driving
3.73 for better accelleration
4.10 for all out dragging and awful gas mileage

Tire size changes can help or hurt these chioces. Tall tires need 3.73 / 4.10. Low profile need 3.08 / 3.55.

I had the extreme. A factory '85 F150. Stock tire and gears was 205/70-15 tire w/ 2.47 gears. I laughed so hard when I saw 2.47 on the axel cover tag. The tires could not handle loads. Changed to 16 inch wheels, 215/85-16 truck tires w/ 3.55 gears. Slowed my top speed, speedO was off by 18 mph. Gave great towing.

o dang so if im gunna get 17 x 8's or 17 x 9's and i wanna get the profile 40mm or 45mm then i should get 3.55's for an auto or 3.08's cuz then thats not to diff from what i got. also dont a lot of ppl on here have 4.10's with low profile. im just wondering why i need this, so its not to much power for the tires? thanks a lot, please help

Not sure if ths thread is still alive, but I have an '06 Manual V8. I believe these have the 3.55's, correct?

For a "daily driver", but getting the better accelleration, would 3.73's be a good improvement? Or not worth the money? I know people have said not to complain about gas mileage, but as a daily driver (80 miles a day) and $2.50 at the pump... it's hard not to be concerned with it.

Also, I was originally thinking about 3.90's, but everyone seems to leave them out of their discussions. Why?

with 355's stock you wouldn't even notice 373's go with the 410's

So the 3.90's are no good? I'm trying to find that happy (as possible) medium between accelleration and mileage.

the medium would prolly be 3:55 but the "happy" medium is prolly 3:73 and the "i dont give a f#$^ gear is 4:10

Does going from stock gearing on a 95 GT (2.73?) to 3.73 cause it to fail CA smog tests?

I have a 1994 Mustang GT with the stock 2 73 gears. I bought 3 73 gears. My car is an auto and i was wondering if the gears would mess up anything with the engines computer? What other things do I need to know about the gears, before having them installed? List any problems that need to be fixed during installation.
