Default 4.10's for a cobra?

I had a 2003 mustang mach 1 with 4.10's and it was great! It really picked up speed better than the stock 3.55, but now I have a 03 cobra w/ 3.73 gears, would it benefit the car to have the 4.10's or would it be to much gear for that car, any cobra owners wanna chim in if they have this set up now?

well 03-04s are supercharged, so i would probably stick with the 3.73s cause i would think there would be a traction problem and a boost problem with 4.10s, i dont know though cause i dont have a cobra.

Don't go any shorter than your 3.73's.

I can't see why you wouldn't want the 4.10's. Let's see a timeslip with the 3.73's and we can make a better judgement.

but its more than that, if it was strictly a drag car id say go for it, but his cobra get ****ted on while on the freeway like no other. If you want good all around accelleration get 3.73's, it you want nothing but drag get 4.10's

If it was me I'd want 3.55's. That blower makes a lot of low end torque, and hooking up even with 3.55's can be tricky. If you plan on modding it further for more hp, you'll benefit from the taller gear. In my 02 S81E I was running 18 psi and making 550 rwhp. The car had 3.08 gears- super tall, especially with a T56. But I loved it. It actually was a great match with that much rwhp; the series V Saleen twin screw blower made massive boost at the hit, and you could still easily break the tires loose. As a matter of fact, that's how a Ford mechanic total'd it. -Punched it in 3rd on the freeway going 60, and before you could say 'twin screw' he lost the rear end and started spinning. Good thing the car didn't have 3.73's, or that mechanic would have really been in trouble (not that he wasn't already).

Info like this is what I have a real problem with, you are aware that his Cobra has a T-56 trans right? Thats a 6 speed, his freeway performance will not be affected, not only that but the differerance between 3.73 and a 4'10 is about 200 rpm at a givin MPH.

Two completly differant cars, you can't compare them.

You will have traction problems with either gear, Cobras have traction trouble bone stock, much less a one with a pulley swap like his. If you want to go fast you need to look at things as a whole system and not just one magical part (ie gears). At the least he should get some Mickey Thompson drag radials, if he wants any hope of running a good time. I see this comment all the time and drives me nuts, everyone thinks you will have traction problems with 4.10's,and you might, but if you do make the car hook up, it's that friggin simple. The only response in this thread, besides Sidewayz, that makes any sence is Birdies, at least he has some personal experiance. Me I would go with a 4.10 but thats just me and gross inexperiance talking (sarcasm). Birdie does make a good point though that a taller gear will work pretty good with your torque. What I would do is to look around at some other sites and see what other 03/04 Cobra owners are running, there are very few 03/04 owners here.
EDIT* I just noticed he has a solid axle (a good thing) so I assume he has after market control arms which will help with tracion if he has good tire (drag radials at least)

Whats simple is that you guys answered a question with no information. That makes it bad information.

I asked for more info. You should have at least done the same before saying people don't want that much gear. How do you know what he wants to do?
