powershifting takes its tolls on any tranny....3550 tremecs are known for blowing 3rd when powershifting.

I'm bummed to hear about the T5. I'm an old Chevy guy used to running Muncie rock crushers and powershifting the piss out of them. I'm building a faifly healthy 2.3 turbo drive train for my 88 LX convertible. If I can't powershift it what the hell good is it? What does Ford offer to handle it? Gotta have one! I've got two T5s to blow then I guess I'll have to get something a little beefier!

My '89 2.3 has about 180K on the clock and after getting the new clutch in it it was fun to drive with the T5.

Not any more.  If I would have know about the T5 weakness I would have taken it a little easier.... or not.  I love driving a lite car with a lite engine especially around town.  I think the syncronizers are going on it.  It's only a matter of time now.... and my left foot working quickly with my right I'm sure will help speed the prosess.

By the way, you lift the gas just as you stomp the clutch and jerk the stick to second before flooring the gas agian... as fast as humanly possible.  A short throw shifter is also a helpful item to have.

Everyone should learn and practice technices useful for going fast AND breaking stuff.  Breaking and changing parts is just part of a car crafter/ hot rodder lifestyle isn't it?   Besides after you break it you can always replace it with something getter and stronger.   I wonder if it's a daily driver?  Have fun with the turbo.... while the tranny lasts.  hahahaha hehehehe hohoho!

Only pussies back off the gas to shift, what do I need to do, put a Chevy tranny in this Ford so I can have some fun? Hell, if ya can't powershift ya might as well go a high stall and a good automatic!!! Both of mine are completely rebuilt W/C T5s once I blow the piss out of them I'll have to make a change!

the best thing you can do for a T% is put an aftermarket shifter in with posative stops, what hurts them is when people over shift and bend the shift forks.with an aftermarket shifter, steel bearing retainer(the shaft on the front where the throwout bearing rides) and no power shifting a T5 will last a little while....as long as you dont beet the snot out of the car everytime you drive it.

I dont recommernd power shifting the T-5 as said its a bomb. But for the guy with a the turbo 2.3 setup theres 2 different T-5's availible. One is for a V8 and the other a V8.I would get a V8 one and swap over your bellhousing and all and run the V8 one.It should hold up to your turbo 2.3 better and longer than the 2.3's T-5.

And Why the hell would anyone tell this kid HELL YEAH go blow it up or anything that would hurt his car?Its obvious he doesnt know and he is obvious asking because he doesnt know.So why would anyone give him advice like that?Personally i think thats a little wrong we are here to help. And i dont think anyone needs help f***ing their cars up.
