well for a while now, ive been having this problem with my pony. it seems to have a mind of its own because i never know when its going to start or not. sometimes it'll start right up and other times it just doesnt fire. also, occasionally when its in drive and im stopped it will start to have trouble idleing and if i dont hit the gas it just dies. it's had this problem since it was completely stock so it shouldnt be any of the mods even though it seems to be happening more often now. i just got it back from a local shop and they put in a new fuel pump and fuel pump relay and they fixed a loose gound wire so now i have adequate fuel pressure, but my problem still persists. please help me before i have to take it in to ford and pay up the ass to fix it.

First thing is to determine what's causing the situation. You need air, fuel, spark, compression, and timing to make the engine run. You'll need to determine what's missing. First based on what you stated, have you tried starting it with your throttle slightly opened when you have the no start condition. If it runs then, your problem may be air and you may need a new IAC valve. If that is not the problem, then you'll need to check and see if you have a spark. If you don't, then you'll need to go through the analysis for what could cause intermitant no spark conditions. Likewise, next thing to check is fuel and what could cause intermitant fuel problems (including possible injector issues). Also, check for any possible vacuum leaks. Also, if you haven't already done so, you may want to check the articles here; http://www.muscularmustangs.com/maintain.php . Also, you may want to clean the upper engine internals using something like a Seafoam treatment if it appears that it could be a fuel issue.

Good Luck with it....................

Got a code reader? That will help some, check for vacum leaks, check TPS, dirty TB, Dirty injectors, It can be a number of things you just need to make a list of all the things that can cause the car to run like that and go through all of them and check em off, use the process of elimination.

I had this problem well the idleing problem and it was my intake bypass valve. Right in front of the Throttle body, get air intake cleaner and spray it good and clean it. Mine had oil in it lol.
