Why does everyone want to

Have you ever driven a 6 cylinder mustang? Not exactly a thrill ride now is it? When a person looks to buying a mustang, the whole theme comes into play. The american sports car. A seat of your pants ride, and a rumble of that v8 coming up through your butt! Wants the point of having this awesome american dream when you can get your tail handed to you from the local civic club?

To answer your question-YES! I have driven a 6-my 1st was a 66 coupe 200 3 speed and I currently own a 64-1/2 coupe w/170 inline w/3 speed and I also have  a 66 'vert with v-8(so I know both sides of the spectrum). When you drive 90mi. round trip to work 5 days a week, you begin to appreciate the gas milage associated with a six. I'm just curious as to why someone would get a six, spend the cash to upgrade the brakes,rear,suspension,radiator,associated wiring and motor/frame mounts when for all the expense, they could have gotten a V-8 in the first place. To me it just doesn't make sense. BTW-visit the website www.fordsix.com and you'll see what can be done to a six to give it as much power as an 8(it's true). 

Now on the other side of things, I know a v-8 has more power and oomph to it and there's no better feeling in the world than tapping the gas and actually going somewhere fast.

What I would actually like to see is the guys who do change(after all it is your car do what you want to it), save aside the 6 and associated stuff, because for guys like me who have sixes, it's getting harder to find the parts for them. I'll ask nicely.....PLEASE.

I see your point. THe only thing that I can think of is that they can be found cheaper. Allot of guys dont have all the money up front, but have the desire to own a mustang, and a fast one. So they buy the inline car and make it a slow work in progress. But I agree to the amount of work that can be saved by buying a v8 car up front. But for big power guys, we have had to go through the rear end, ad bigger capacity radiators (aluminium evan) and wiring in electronics like jacobs ignitions. Not to mention that mustang brakes enheirtly s**k ba**s. I have had to go through the brakes on my 69, front disc conversion, and now im thinking of evan converting the rear to disc.As for the gas milage, thats what my 00 civic daily driver is for, I love the 34 MPG it gets on my 57 mile trot to work, and the a/c and the power everything. But regrdless, a mustang is many different things to many different people. What it is to you is not what it is to me, and what it is to someone else is probably different from both of out points of view.

I didn't mean to sound like I was knocking them, I'm just curious. Now I see the point. I-sixes are cheaper and if you don't have the overlay out front, it's a good driver to use until the cash is at hand. I guess I'm just stuck in the days when you kept a car "Stock".  I think I'm just getting too old.......(L)
