View Full Version : Where to get NON PERFORMANCE Items for your 05' and UP!

Professor Wizard

Most of the people are only interested in Performance Modifications because they like the GO FAST stuff... BUT – I for one am trying to build up my car for “Show” as well. So I have been searching the world for places to get “Stuff” to fix up my car and here are some of the results.

OF Course, I am telling you to check out the sponsers here for many of the fine products the offer FIRST. But if they don't have what your looking for here are some other places to look for those hard to find products!

Many thanks to those who have contributed to finding those special deals and items that you can use to set your car apart from the rest of the pack.

If you find something special, or a deal that is awesome for things you can find anywhere - Please post in this thread and I will edit/add to this main page.

Enjoy Customizing your Mustang...

Here is a place for Dash Kits. Not only is this the cheapest place to get the kits, BUT ALSO, on the Mustang kit they have, they cut out the word MUSTANG on the piece that goes over the glove box. Pretty cool! There are lots of things you can do with that by putting underlay behind it to make the letters stand out. They have a large variety of materials available. However, they will not “split” a kit so if you want to mix/match like I did, you have to buy two kits.

http://www.wooddashexperts.com/customer/home.php?cat=2354

You can order 2 samples for free from them to help you decide what material you want.

I purchased and installed Red/Black Carbon Fiber and a Real Aluminum kits from them for my car.

If you are looking for paint to paint your exterior add-ons... try these!

I bought paint from these guys… The color matched perfectly

http://www.etouchup.com/

GREAT for the DIY guy wanting to paint that body mod himself.

$35 to $40 with shipping (depending on where you live!) For 12 oz (enough to cover 6 square feet of area or a 2' x 3' area.

Includes can of Clear Coat. (Although it isn’t the TOP quality – I would upgrade!)

Does not include primer, but you really can use just about any primer.

Looking for that Vinyl Dye Spray to make the rear side panels match the front ones if you went with the RED Interior (For some stupid reason Ford decided to go cheap and not “red” the rear panels!).

I am even thinking of dying the armrest so the front seat flows all the way across like the rear.

Girls LOVE to get on my motorcycle - - but they somehow, inevitably, manage to scuff or scratch the gas tank while doing so.

Here is the product I use to remove the scuff, scratches and haze. (NO!.. I am NOT going to tell a HOT nearly naked girl she can’t sit on my bike!) ha ha ha

http://www.flitz.com

This stuff is amazing! I also use it to buff the gold/brown tint off of the chrome exhaust pipes where they exit the engine. It removes it completely without a trace and really shines up the chrome.

And YES… I do use it on my car all the time to remove scuffmarks and such from the paint, and also use it on my wheels.

You can find several cheap sources on the net. You can also run to your local Ace Hardware Store and pick some up at reasonable prices if you don’t want to have to “Wait” for it to arrive.

Another option I went with on my Mustang was the Ford Automatic Day/Night mirror with Homelink Garage Opener built in... The dealer will install.

Just click this link and search for mirror.

it is cheaper without the Homelink and Temp options...

Getting tired of holding your hood up?

Ever knock that stupid Hood Support rod out of its hole and have the hood fall!

Ever have the little retainer clip break and then have your hood support rod flop around with every bump.

Try this!

They aren't cheap... but definitely better then the factory rod.

Here is a site with H13 (9008) Xenon Halogen Upgrade bulbs - made by Nokya (A good brand) in the Arctic White Series.

May I ask how hard it was to install the dash kit? I'm thinking of the real aluminum for my red GT. Which aluminum did you get? Do the panels feel like they're pretty well on.

Professor Wizard
02-08-2006, 04:03 PM
I got my dash kit from wooddashexperts.

I have some Real Aluminum.. and some Red/Black Carbon fibor.

Intall was easy, however teadious as it requires a bit of patience. don't try it if your overcooked on coffee!

I feel they look great!

They just stick on - - the entire back side is covered with 3M Sticky... and once they are on.. you are NOT going to get them off without totally destroying the dash!

Yeah I saw your pics from the car show, nice car. I like the mix of the red/black CF and the aluminum however I definatly can't afford to buy $400 of kits just to use half of it. 3M makes some sticky stuff, I just put on some aluminum trim on the rear tail lights and they're sticking well, it does the outline of the lights and the two lines between the lights. I'm probably gonna order some sample pieces, they won't give you 2 for free, its $5 for 4 samples but they'll refund you the $5 when/if you order a kit.

Do you know if the E brake handle can be replaced by an aftermarket one like a MOMO, they have some cool ones but I don't know if they'll fit a stang, one site I though said they would fit mustangs however others don't list them as compatible. Worst case scenario I could go with the billet aluminum e brake slip on I've seen on ebay for like $60.

Just received my "Chrome Trim Kit" from a seller on ebay called "e_seller05"

BUYER BEWARE ON THIS ONE.......

The picture looks great, but what you will receive is a package containing flat chrome stick-on moulding. You have to figure out how to make it curve around while still staying flat and HOPE it comes out like the picture. He didn't even include alcohol wipes to clean before you stick.

PLUS, there's a note in the package letting you know that if you leave bad feedback you can expect to be flamed..."If I receive bad feedback, you can expect the same in return"

SO...if you WANT flat moulding, then by all means buy this item, but if you're like me and expected a pre-made item then don't waste your $30.00 on this stuff, just go to the local detail shop and buy it by the foot!

Hope this helps someone!

zanemoseley
02-20-2006, 12:01 AM
MikefromMass, I too got the same kit from the same seller as you and it is a little crappy about the bad feedback deal but I read in some feedback that if you mess up a light he'll send you more free of charge so he's pretty much just saying he wants to make it right before you giving him bad feedback but I agree he could have worded it better. The trim is a little challanging to put on but came out great for me but its only been on 3 weeks so we'll see, it is 3m adhesive though. The corners are the hardest, I found it best to just go around ther corners tight and then lay down the next 4 inches or so of straight molding, the corner will pop up but you can go back and push it down hard and it should be good to go from there. Its much harder to get the corner to stick before laying down the next part of flat. It isn't the easiest kit but it is definatley the cheapest.

I really like my '05 Mustang Convertable, but there are a few things just driving me nuts with it. One of these minor things is the cupholder. It comes with 2 cupholders. The first one (nearest to the dash) is the right size for me. The second one is much much too big and whenever I put a cup in it, I end up with a spill because it is just too big.

I noticed that professor wizard put the following image that had a different cupholder in the second opening.Image (http://www.mustangforums.com/upfiles/14231/220A4A6C340C4327B9C68E79711E5C51.jpg)

Is that just a different kind of cup? Did you get a smaller cupholder? I'm looking for some ideas on what to do with that second cup holder. I've been toying with the idea of carving my own insert but was wondering if I'm missing somethings here like a rubber insert. I bought my car new from the dealership, but they missed giving me some things like the owner's manual until I started complaining.

Professor Wizard,

I just acquired a sweet, slightly used 05 premium convertible.

I was surprised that it has so few emblems on the car and NO blue oval badge except on the spinners on the wheels.

I located a kid in TN that does custom colored FORD badges in all colors and sizes. I had him do a 3.5 inch FORD oval in gloss black (the insert color, usually FORD blue, is black and the whole item is refinished in a poly-urethane. They can be applied on the exterior or interior.

I positioned the new badge on the dash (interior is black and gray), it is located over the glove box and has the same black and chrome coloring as the vents. It looks so sharp and so factory.

He does the badges custom for other colors and sizes. His site is www.planetauto.com and he was very responsive to e-mails and efficient with his service.

Once I figure out how to do the photos, I will include one.

In addition to the badges that I mentioned above, I also upgraded my door sills with the OEM aluminum plates.

MUSTANG TUNING.com sells decal inserts to fill in the stamped out MUSTANG logo. I did the insert color in matte black (interior is gray and black). They are sharp.

Prof,

I just joined Mustang Forums today after being glued to sifting through it all last night and found your posting an excellent resource!

After waiting 18 years for a NEW car (my last one was an '87 Nissan Pulsar) and having Mustang envy since my stepdad introduced me to his '68 fastback in 1970, I finally got the green light to buy my '06 GT on June 9! I owned a 1979 Capri Turbo (dog) while I was in college in the early 80s and just traded in my faithful 1998 3.8 to help get my baby.

What really feels great is knowing I have so many power and styling options with the GT that I didn't readily have with the '98, making the reading of the forum so much more worthwhile. I mean, at some point a reasonable person owning a 3.8 would begin to think twice about spending gobs of cash on upgrades and mods when he or she could own a dream machine like the newest GT, right? Thank God I had the presence of mind to figure that out before my gal would've twapped me upside the head with a sledgehammer for pissing my money away.

Point is, I found your post to be most helpful and I thought I'd contribute my own find for Genuine Ford Parts and Accessories:

Ford Parts Direct (http://www.ford-parts-direct.com/)

I just made my first order of accessories, the all-weather molded vinyl Pony floor mats and the center spinner wheel caps. I know it's a real weak first order, but I already have my laundry list of things I want to customize my GT and they'll come later. The prices from Ford Parts Direct were excellent; I got the floor mats for more than 20 bucks cheaper than I could find them on eBay and I saved 10 bucks on the spinners. Just my minor contribution and I'm sure a lot of people are already aware of the place.

Thanks for an informative post!

Best,
68

Great info!! I am looking for some center caps for my '05 GT. I have the optional GT wheels and they have the Ford logo on the center cap with a grey background. I am looking specifically for some Pony logo center caps with silver or grey background. I have found some with a black background but I don't believe they would look right.

Anyone know where to get some good fitted canvas seat covers for my convertible (tan/parchment interior)?

Everywhere I find on google seems to only offer the front seats, and I'd like to cover front and back. My car's interior will get filthy and I like the fact you can just chuck canvas in the wash.

+1 on the locking gas cap. Why would our cars not have a pull for the cap cover inside the car? Another $2 ford decided to save, along with the 50 cents it would have cost them to add a switch for the trunk.

I found this knob on EBay,and might be of interest to you guys.

If you remember the '05 Mustang debut at the 2004 auto shows, you probably noticed that the MT knob was very different from the one actually offered in production. After some research, I found that the original knob that was featured at the auto-shows was replaced by a knob Ford received from a European supplier right before production.

The original knob design matches the Mustang's retro styling with cool font and ergonomic shape. There is a knob offered on EBay, which is machined out of aluminum, and has a clear-coat finish.

What do you guys think?
