Hello all

This is my first post. I found the site by googling. I'm looking to by an 04 GT vert this week. I considered waiting for the 05 but my current set of wheels is barely hobling around and it's time to put it down (don't ask what it is). Plus the 3k rebate is too good to pass up. I get the feeling they may be having trouble moving the 04's because so many people are waiting for the 05's. I have never owned a sports car. Every where I go on the net it seems people love thier Stangs. I test drove one on Friday. All I can say is WOW!

I still haven't decided on extras. I hear good things about the Mach 460 stero system. But is it worth the $490 invoice cost? What about the interior upgrade package vs. the pony package? Is it worth the cost? How good is the quality of the leather seats?

I'm geting the majority of my quotes from the net. I can't believe I ever just walked into a dealership and walked out with a car. I'm not going to name the site unless anyone is interested. But I got a pretty good education on buying a new car.

I may hang out here for a while. I'll be seeing everyone around.

I'm still considering offers. There doesn't seem to be a huge selection of convertables in my area, alot of coups tho. Maybe its the time of year. My first choice would be torch red, after that yellow, and then orange.I'm hearing if I ordered from the factory I would have to wait 6-8 weeks. That's not an unreasonable amount of time but I don't want to have to dump any money into keeping my current transportation going. It still runs but it won't pass inspection. And right now I got Stang fever.

As far as upgrades go I'm not sure. I'm probably going to keep it stock for awhile. This being my first sportscar I have ALOT to learn. My number one priority is going to be taking extra good care of this car. When I learn the ins and outs of her I'll see what direction I want to go.

I'm leaning toward red or orange, or possibly yellow. I don't like the blue. I may take the best deal with the options I'm looking for regardless of color. We'll see. A guy I work with has a good friend who works at a ford plant. Supposedly they just opened up their A-plan deals to non family member. He's going to see if he can get me a hook up. If I can get a deal then it will be either red or orange and it will be loaded.

i just got mine last month in December. It is a silver convertible with blacktop. I got an awesome deal for it. I only paid 2.7% above wholesale for it.

What you do is you go to consumer.org and pay $12 for a car report. It is the best $12 investment you will ever make!! It gives you a detailed account of that the car actually costs to make, what the wholesale cost is, what the dealership paid for it, and what the dealership is selling it for.

It even breaks it down for you for example, the pony packagecost the dealership $245, but they'll sell it to you for $540, etc.

So, you go in with all of these paperwork and BARGAIN with them!!! They know you know your s**t and will not HAGGLE you too much. Remember a fair comission for them is 3-4% above wholesale. My convertible's retail price was above $27,000 and I got it for $22,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

HotRods, I love mine too!!! All this that everybody is doing to their car is so foreign to me. I don't know what it all means but it just totally BLOWS my mind how dedicated people are and how PROUD they are of their stangs.

I just want to get nice tires and rims. Since I know nothing about cars, can you guys tell me what size tires, rims, styles, etc. should I get with mine ??

Well, I personly like chrome 18" Cobra R Wheels. 9.5 front and 10.5 rear. That's what I'm getting in a couple weeks. Go check them out at the tire rack .com

How was the consumerreport.org car prices compared to edmunds.com or carsdirct.com? Every site seems to be a little different. I may check out consumer reports. I'm getting ready to make a purchase any day now and I think I have the costs down. However you never know when you are getting inaccurate informatian from somesites. Some of the quotes I'm getting online are about 5k under MSRP (include the 3k rebate). I'm really close to making a deal. Then comes the negotiating on my trade in. It's all good tho.I be riding in style real soon. :)

Hotrod, I wanna see some pics when you get yours. I was saving up to get tires and rims but got into 2 fender benders (all within a month of getting my stang). Can you believe it.. the Front and the back. Well, gonna fix that first...

Ravonaf, I have the papers here... I havn't been to edmunds or carsdirect, but with consumer, it outlines the wholesale price for a deluxe, premium, GT deluxe, GT premium, and Cobra SVT.

Besides listings the wholesale price, it also lists what the dealership paid for it, and what they're selling it for.

If you had gotten it back in Dec, it would have been a 4k rebate. Are you looking at just a V6 or GT? Well, mine is a convertible, so I will give you the numbers for what it shows for a convertible. And this is just the basic package. If you want interior design, pony package, etc, it'll tell you how much it really costs and how much the dealership is charging for it.

PremiumV6: wholesale $19,670Dealer invoice $20,451 MSRP $22,665

PrmiumGT: wholesale $22,432 Dealer invoice $23,308 MSRP $25,840

Oh yeah, don't tell them about your trade in until you're about to sign the papers..

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the 4k rebate in december. Oh well. They do have a 3k rebate now so I better get it before it drops again. I'm looking at a GT. I just ran the number you gave me up and it's pretty close to a quote I got over the weekend. I'm waiting for a possible hook up from a friend. If that falls through (hopefully I'll know by tommarow) I will go with the offer. After adding together the invoice of everything and subtracting the holdback and the rebate the dealer is making about 5% over wholesale. I can deal with that. As long as they don't stick me with a bunch of bogus fees (dealer prep, ad fees, floorplan fees, etc)

oh hey, just realize you are the original author.. good luck on getting your new convertible. I had my old car for 10 years since high school and couldn't have been happier when the dealership took it from me. Now, I just LOVE MY NEW STANG!!

Yes, if you can get it roughly about 5% above wholesale, that is Excellent. You know, a lot of the dealerships still have their 03's and probally will give you next to nothing just to get it off their lots, But (?) would they still give you the 4k rebate instead? hhmmnn...

and yes, you have to get the interior upgrade. it just looks so much nicer.. plus the pony package... and the mach460. At least those 3.

btw, do you know how much you'd be paying for insurance? My rate is $188 but with a 30% discount (alarm, defensive driving, etc), I'm paying $132. but my rates might go up since I got into a stupid fender bender.
<edited><editID>pinknyellowflow</editID><editDate>38013.9824305556</editDate></edited>

My insurance for the GT convertable will go up $165 every six months. I can handle that. Considering what my current vehicle is that is great. My hook up fell through so I'm heading out tonight to possibly make a purchase.

I'm going to take the best quote I got and shop it around. I'm lucky enough to have 4 dealerships that are all relatively close together. I'm pretty happy with the quote I got. I'm sure the real dealing will come with the trade in. Tade in value is about $1500. I would take $1000. However it's a 94 with 88000 miles on it and it needs some work. The quote I got has the interior upgrade, 460 mach, ABS, the dust cover and its red. The only thing it doesnt have that I may want is leather. I'm not sure about the 460 mach. Would it be cheaper to save the $490 retail and have one installed myself?

Invoice on that car is $19,503. That's a basic GT deluxe with nothing else on it but what comes standard. This is also including the 3k rebate. If you were to buy the car at that cost the dealer would still make about $700 to $800. I would consider that a very very good deal. Below that price would be great. Slightly above that price ($100-$200) is still very good. I just got a quote today for a GT primium vert thats only $85 dollars above invoice. It is black though and I'm not sure on the color. I am however going to take that price to other dealers this evening and see if they can beat or match it. If they can, maybe I'll get another color. Go to carsdirect, edmunds, or consumerreports and print out that price to take with you to the dealer if you go. Get a quote and hit the next dealer.

You know, you can go to forddirect.com and search their inventory. It shows exactly what dealership has what car and what each car comes equipped with.

I did all my research online, narrowed it down to 3 that I really liked, and when I went to the dealership, I had the Vin #, knewexactly what each stang was equipped with, knew how much it was wholesale, how much the dealership actually paid for it, and what the MSRP was.

The salesman that helped me was like "Holys**t girl! you've got your s**t going on!"

He was pretty cool and did not give me a hard time. When you go in there with all your numbers and knowing their numbers, they can either sell it to you and make a fair comission or they know you will take your papers and get it somewhere else.

BTW, your insurance is going up $165 every 6 months, so HOW much will you be paying for insurance with the new Stang? How old are you? (if you don't mind)... just wanna compare and see if I'm getting a good deal with mine thru State Farm.

I'll be 33 in April. My wife is also on the policy and she will be 31 in May. We also have State Farm. We will also have a 98 Rodeo on the policy. We currently pay about $600 every six months with the Rodeo and the vehicle I am currently driving (don't ask). So our rates should go up to about 765 every six months. We've both been lucky enough that we have clean records. I think she's only had 2 tickets her whole life and the last one was over 5 years ago. I've never had a ticket. I'm hoping that doesn't change when I'm racing around with a V8 under the hood :)

I went to a dealer this evening. I showed him some quotes from some other dealers. For some reason he didn't have what I was looking for on the lot. He said he could get it but he would lose his holdback because he had nothing to trade. He was kinda of flustered. He said the deal I quoted was very good. He said he could beat it by at least $300 if he had one in stock. He even printed out his sheet with invoice costs and hold back costs of the exact vehicle (via VIN#) that the other dealer quoted me and gave it to me. He said he flat out could not beat that deal. It felt really good having the upper hand at the dealer. When I got back home I had another quote in my email from a different dealer. Amazingly enough he beat my bestquote by $300 and the car was even red! I'm thinking I'll have the GT by Saturday at the latest. I read that the dealers are alot easier to haggle down near the end of the month because they are trying to make thier quota.

T_Stang

I would have to research the 99 Gt. New cars are alot easier to get prices on because you can find out what the dealer paid. The dealer could had paid alot all the way to next to nothing for a used vehicle. Makes it hard to nail a price down.

Yup. Hall was the dealership that said they couldn't match the offer Beach Ford sent me. It was kinda a shame too. I got a good feel from the dealership and they are just a few miles from the house. The best offer I have right now if from Freedom Ford. However I'm gonna go see Bowditch on thursday to see if maybe they can match. They are also pretty close to the house. I think regardless of where I buy it I'm gonna have it serviced at Hall. The Hall sales manager actually told me that Beach Ford was offering a great deal. And he said to them them Hall said so. :)

we are fortunate to have some great ford dealers around here. bowditch, beach/barton and freedom ford are all top notch dealerships. but as far as service, i think hall ford can rival anyone in the friggin world. their body shop is amazing.

Well...I brought home my new Stang tonight. Red GT Vert premium with the interior upgrade package. I think I was able to get a pretty sweet deal. With the rebate I was able to get them $6500 below the MSRP. I even got a couple dollars for the trade in. The Stang is an amazing machine. I spent an hour just driving around town trying to get a feel for her. Now I'm think I parinoid about getting a ticket. Oh well. I'll get used to the speed soon enough.

the 05? And pay a premium for a car that probably doesn't have all the bugs worked out yet. The 06 maybe. I got the 04 for $6500 below MSRP mainly because everyone else is waiting for the 05.

lmao!! good one Rav. I like T's idea, a rose by any other name.....
The rose is romantic, nostalgic and a symbol of grace and reverence, yet the character of the rose is strengthened by its darker self - its thorns. The joy the rose conveys unravels to reveal its true self and influence.

congrats dude. wich dealership made the best offer? i may have to consider picking up an 04 GT a little later in the year.

Bowditch made the best offer. I had offers on the table from Freedom Ford and Beach Ford also. I'm pretty certain that the Bowditch offer was atleast $300 under invoice. Probably more. Invoice prices seem to change depending on what site you get them from. When Hall said they couldn't match Beach's offer they printed out thier invoice sheet and showed me that Beach's offer was $300 over invoice. Freedom then sent me an offer for the exact same vehicle that was $300 below what Beach said. I took that as being invoice. I then got the offer from Bowditch that beat Freedom by $300 and it had the interior upgrade package with the dust cover. I jumped on that offer. Bowditch didn't play any games. I told them I didn't want any of thier extra's like undercoating/extended warrenty. I had pre-arranged my own financing from the local credit union and I knew my loan rate before hand. The finance manager at Bowditch did something that allowed me to have a better credit rating. I got a whole percentage point better loan rate and still financed through the credit union.
