whats the difference between 4.10's and 3.73's? what will get you faster acceleration and what will get you a faster top speed?

top speed is gonna be the same with eitherone

however, if you are looking at a 99-04 like i thnk you are

YOU DEFINATELY WANT the 4.10s

better accelerationg throughout the range, and as long as you dont do 100% of your driving on the interstate, you should be fine

na, i wouldn't do 4.10's...

i would go for the 3.73's. better gas milages and your still getting a huge fraction of torque. i heared with 4.10's you would spin them way too easily

see, i like to drag race, and to me....thats the point.

i would do it, i had 3.73's in my '90 GT and hated them...not enuff. it was aod though.

4.10's in my '89 5-speed notch, and would never do anything else. i'm putting 4.10's in my '93 b4 spring.

THIS GUY OBVIOUSLY HAS NEVER HAD 3.73's or 4.10's or else he wouldnt say that

nothing against him, but odds are that he is just going by word of mouth, from someone who also has most likely NOT had either gear

sure, if you dump the clutch at 4K, youre gonna spin like hell, but 4.10's are a blast to drive

very minimal drop in gas mileage, unbelievable acceleration increase, and tons of fun

4.10's or +

you dont need a low gear to go fast... if its a street car it can sometimes be too much and more of a hassle. Id say if u want a good all around gear go with the 3.73s or if u want a tad more, 3.90s...

3.73's work fine in Fox Body's.

If it were my car, I'd go with 4.10/4.30's only.

yea vash, i wasnt jumping on you, glad you understood that, alot of people dont

but he said in another post he was looking at a 99-04, and as long as he isnt running any kind of forced induction, its best for him to run at LEAST 4.10's, as dan said, some (including him) have ran 4.30's and had no problems whatsoever

those are myths, its your foot that kills your milage, foxes are 3.73s, SN-95s 4.10s 05s+ 4.10s or 4.30s

took the words right from my keyboard.

you're probably talking .5-1.0 mpg difference between 3.73 & 4.10.

and actually, harv (03yellowpony) gets better milage with 4.10s then i do (V-6 w/3.27s) and you get the same and your a blown GT with 3.73s

Thank you! Obviously you actually know what you are talking about.

For the rest of the people who are still having troule with this, the different generations of cars come with different gear ratios in the trans which means that the final drive ratios do not have the same effect on the car!

Yes, even some of the different model years had slightly different trans gears but mustangman02232 has it right.

wouldnt it make more sense to generalize the car by engine type than body style? like 5.0s like "higher" gears where as the 4.6s like lower ones?
