Should I put $2,000 of performance mods in a stock 1990-1992 mustang gt or a stock 2001 mustang gt?Which car would be faster?

You're starting with more hp with the '01, but I believe that the 302 responds better to mods. This is only from what I've read on this site. For only 2K, I'd go with the 4.6

I don't understand why Ford could only muster up 225hp out of the 302 for all these years. Now that they have the 281, they're running 300hp with the new ones. Why is the 302 a better engine? I really don't have a clue for the reason Ford does some of things they do.

True, the 302 in stock form wasn't much of a motor. Hell, even GM's HATED 305 motor had equal HP numbers, even more in 90-91. Too bad the F-bodies weigh a couple pounds more than the Fox's did, otherwise the Ford 5.0 would suffer the same reputation.

I'd take a late model GT over a fox anyday, for both looks and out of the box performance.

yea I must say it sucks trying to mod a 4.6 everything is 5x more expensive! you could get much more done to the 5.0 with that money than the 4.6
