Default Do i need more shims???

I just got the ford trac loc and 3.73 gears, and was wondering if i needed to add any more shims or clutch packs to the trac loc or will it work fine right out of the box? Anyone has a part number or price on the shims? Thanks for the help.

yes you will needs shims, A Crush sleeve, and a new pinion Nut. If you are upgrading the carrier and gear it will need to be re-shimmed. If not it will whine and ruin the gear and possiably the carrier.
I don't know the part number for the shims off hand but if you call 713-802-6603 His name is Glen Torre and he is the Performance Parts sale guy at Tommie Vaughn In Houston, He can get you a price. Tell him Joey told you to call.

Hope this helps.

Complete install kit (shims, bearings, gaskets, blah blah blah)... all you need is the gear oil and friction modifier...

Are you planning on doing this yourself? Have you ever done it before? It's not a simple bolt on mod, it take experience to get it right...

My gear set came with the pinion nut and crush sleeve, can i reuse the old bearings ? and get only the shims then ? My mechanic will do it , he has done it in my GT a couple of times already so it should be the same. Plus he use to have old mustangs so i guess he has worked on 7.5s before. Thanks for the link and the info.

You can reuse your bearings, if they're still in good shape.

Since I'm going to have it open anyhow, I figured I might as well replace them while I was in there, even though the stock bearings have < 10k miles on them.

Talk to my mech today, he said if they dont get damaged during removal , i can reuse the bearing. As far as the shims go he said he can also reuse the stock ones. Do u know for a fact if u need aditional shims to get the right clearance, or is it also a just in case he does need more . Thanks for taking the time to answer Todd

I don't know for a fact...

I've actually never done it. I have researched it quite a lot (for the past several months), in preperations to swap mine out this weekend (as long as it doesn't snow).

I'm having a skilled mechanic watch over me to make sure I don't destroy my rearend. (wish me luck!)

(here's a decent how-to guide with good illustration as to how you want the marking compound to look)
