Wow. I've only been driving a 5 speed for a month. Gimme a break.

That's also about as long as I've had the car.

Jaggezz,

Had you mentioned that in your initial posting about the race it would have been a lot of help. Trust me, that 5.0 is much faster than people seem to realize. I've been racing these things for 25 years. The way your car is setup will get you into the deep 13's even on street tires.

Practice a bit, see where each gear goes, don't red line it, shift it at about 5800, you'll get the feel for where it makes power. Launch her low and even if it bogs a bit that's better than smoking the tires in a race. How many miles are on the motor? I'll be more than happy to help in anyway, once you learn that car you'll be laughing at S10's and Civic's, trust me.

LOL what the hell are you talking about ? this is a joke right ? PLEASE say it's a joke

It's true. A civic with a turbo B series and a 4.4 final drive pulls pretty hard in second and third gear. 2nd goes from 40-60, 3rd goes from 60-80. Those are my two favorite gears.

2000 you keep mentioning turbo civic... jag sounds like he thinks a stock civic would pull on a 5.0. we all know that's not (shouldn't) happening. jaggezz keep practicing and you'll get better, start with downshifting before you race

Yea. I just went out and downshifted to third at 60 and you guys are right, I should have done that. I just didn't want it to squeal and shake and make myself look stupid if I downshift too high.

The car has 62,000 miles. Runs really strong and is still young.

Thanks for being understanding. Like I said, I just got this car. I've been driving a Jeep for the past year so it's way different.

Final drivex336xTransratio / Tire Diax RPM = mph at that rpm.

(3.73x336x3.35=4198) / (26x5800=150800) = 35 mph 1st gear

(3.73x336x1.99=2494) / (26x5800=150800) = 60 mph 2nd gear

(3.73x336x1.34=1679) / (26x5800=150800) = 89 mph 3rd

(3.73x336=1253) / (26x5800=150800) = 120 mph 4th gear

(3.73x336x.68=852) / (26x5800=150800) = 176 mph in 5th

Granted that doesnt take into account slippage and its also assuming a 26" tire. Also there is no way a stock 5.0 makes enough power to push a fox to 176 moh, 140 if you are lucky and have a tailwind.

If you are under 60 mph, drop to second, if over 60 only go to third. If you dont get the math, PM me and I will explain it all to you, ok?

I'me sure there are plenty of Civic's running 13's and I'm happy for them, really, I am. I really don't care about them however, in my humble opinion Civic's are for going to the store to buy milk, nothing more, I'm not in a Civic forum either so if people really love that car I'm sure they can head over there and talk about how much money they threw at their car which at the end of the day is still a Civic.

Do you have any idea how lame that reasoning is?

At the end of the day, I can drive my car home. Not have it towed to the nearest Ford dealership to get ****ed over for the price of repairs and parts.

At the end of the day, after spending a small amount on mods I can run 13s and still get 25+ mpg.

At the end of the day, someone's 13 second Civic pulled your big bad V8 down the highway.

At the end of the day, I still know wtf I'm talking about. Unlike people who say stupid **** like what you just said.

Finally, at the end of the day, I'm driving a car because I like it. Not because I need a penis extension.

Oh and of course, no offense to you. But your reasoning with that line you just spouted is absolute garbage. Somebody needs to grow up and stop hating cars because they're not good old fashioned Fixed Or Repaired Daily ****ed Over Rebuilt Dodges.

Hows that for a taste of your own medicine, hater?

Go back and read the inital post. I'll be the first to admit, a near stock Civic isn't going to pull a 5.0 with those kinds of mods. It HAD to have had some sort of low boost turbo.

quote:

I think the Civic might have been turbo, judging by the pillar pods (might have had a boost gauge). I though I heard it too, but I'm not sure because I wasn't paying alot of attention (and music was loud).

Ummm define a "small amount" on mods. Youd need a supercharger on high boost to run anywhere NEAR the 13's. And last i checked, youll be in a few thousand (not including a clutch, fuel, etc upgrades) to buy a blower or turbo kit for your SI.

To you, I guess it's lame, to me, it isn't. Pretty simple really.

quote:

At the end of the day, I can drive my car home. Not have it towed to the nearest Ford dealership to get ****ed over for the price of repairs and parts.

Well gosh, I had no idea the 6 Mustang's and 8 other Fords I've owned ever had to be towed, oh thats right, they never have. As for the price for parts, who you kidding?

quote:

At the end of the day, after spending a small amount on mods I can run 13s and still get 25+ mpg.

Who you trying to convince? Good for you, I didn't buy the car for MPG, if I did perhaps I'd buy a Focus or something else like that. It's still a Civic, I'm sorry.

quote:

Are you reading what you post? Thought not. You are in a Ford forum, the thought of driving a Civic and I don't care if it gets 1000mpg and goes 10's makes my stomach turn and IT'S STILL A CIVIC. I didn't go to a Civic forum and hate on them now did I, you came here and you follow any anti-rice/Honda post and hate on each and every one of them to use your little word, tell me to grow up? Go back to the kiddie forum where boys drive rice and men drive real cars. If my car is a penis extension yours is women repellent and I drive my car not because I like it, I love it, it rocks and it isn't a CIVIC.

I'm guessing my wife must have bought her Mustang because it's a breast extension. She loves laughing at the Civic's with coffee cans and wings as much as I do and she has never lost to a ricer yet either. Guess she'll have to keep an eye out for you cause your Civic is so special. ;)

I don't know, I've seen plenty of riced out Civics and other imports, but I want to say it's different in my area. Maybe it's just more mature / conservative, but I rarely see kids revving their fart cans or showing off in the streets. I don't think I've ever looked at another poorly done or ghetto looking import and laughed because "oh it's only a XXXX" or "it's still an XXXXX," but only because I know it's slower than my car. Now, if that Civic or that Integra or whatever it was roasted my ass on the highway, I definitely wouldn't think that way. I'd have respect for it no matter how ghetto it looked because I just got worked over by a car that even with all of its money invested probably cost less than the down payment I put on mine.

I just can't see the reasoning in saying "well I'm still driving this so I'm better than that guy." That's just a poor justification for losing hehe. You have to show respect where respect is due.

I have seen some fast freaking Civics. Anyone ever seen the videos of Parrish's 10-second Silverado? One of them I have has him annihilating a built Z06 Corvette, then a few races later he races a Turbo'd Civic from a roll (with 12 subs in the back of it) and the Civic pulls on him no problem.

Alrighty. I guess you have a hard time admitting to things. You're trying to prove your point, but after being on this board for well over two years, oh and owning a Ford myself for two years... I'm much obliged to calling you the biggest liar I've ever seen sign up here.

Out of the 14 Fords you've owned, not one has never broken down?

hAahahahahahaaaaaaaahahahahaaaahahahaaa

Bull. Sheit. Don't be afraid to admit that Ford has a problem with all around reliability, it's the truth. Despite what your pride is telling you, it's not going to hurt to admit it.

quote:

Are you reading what you post? Thought not. You are in a Ford forum, the thought of driving a Civic and I don't care if it gets 1000mpg and goes 10's makes my stomach turn and IT'S STILL A CIVIC.

Yes I'm reading what I'm posting. But the difference here is I'm also reading what other people are writing on this forum. You on the other hand are blind to the fact that even your fellow Ford enthusiasts can and have admitted to Ford's lack of build quality in their products.

That's the point, you see. Putting a 10 second Civic on the streets is much more complicated, and takes someone who knows what they're doing to do it. Any backwoods toothless redneck with their V8 can do it with some extra change. What makes you so special?

quote:

They did? When? Hasn't happened to me, EVER. Again, even if it did, it's still a Civic.

Ah... still having trouble admitting things, are we? Swallow your pride and tell me you've always beat everything with your Mustang. Go on, but I still won't believe you. I guess the fact that a 13 second Civic toasted you at some point in the past while you were driving one of your 14 Fords really put a damper on your pride. Was it tough?

quote:

Hmmm, this is really the best you have? Penis extension? You call me lame?

No, it's not the best I have. But it's simply the truth. Reasoning behind that is all this crap about "buying a real car to go fast in"

whoopty doo! Everybody and their grandfathers have gone fast with V8s of today and yesteryear. Do you really think that you're special in your dinky bad V8? Do you really think so? Honestly. Ford can't even build fast cars from the factory without some sort of forced induction. Whoopty! A 30 thousand dollar overweight 01 Cobra with and dinky 281 pushing a WHOPPING 300 hp! holy ****! and it only runs high 13s at best? what the ****? You really think you're car is so much better than any of the Civic's out there who've put their cars in the 12s? 13s?

quote:

She loves laughing at the Civic's with coffee cans and wings as much as I do and she has never lost to a ricer yet either.

Good. Because I like laughing at those tards too. But that isn't the discussion. This thread originated with the thoughts of the specified car racing him of having some sort of Forced induction. If that's rice, then you have some serious hatred issues against a car company you've never owned, driven, or hell probably never have even sat in.

So yes, I'm calling you lame. and you really need to grow up.

I've personally seen many Civics that would beat your reliability challenged dinky penis air pump into submission without forced induction.

and you're defending Mustangs? haha. I've owned people in debates like this who know more about their cars than even you do.

I'm surprised you're not driving a Corvette, because you're a real prick. Would daddy have beat you had you not gotten a Domestic? Is that where this Civic/Import hostility is coming from? Comon, admit something for a change. Living a lie will catch up to you sooner or later.

Remember, this is 2005. The best of the best are coming off the assembly line. 200 horsepower Civics from the factory will be here in less than a month. These cars WILL be running in the high 14s, completely stock. Meanwhile we have stock S2000s running low 14s, which is game for a 99-04 GT. Is that pathetic, considering at the end of the day, it's still a Honda?

I'll await your rebuttal with anticipation, even though I know it'll be just as weak as your last one.

Oh for the love of God... lol

So a civic with a turbo can't be in the 13s? Hell you better tell that to the guys with bolt on N/A D series SOHC vtecs running 13s.

What do you have? A stock GT with stock 3.27s? Is that why you think his shift points are off? 3.73s are going to make a giant difference in shift points and patterns.

my gears hold me to 115 in 4th with my 3.73's. but that is to 6000-6100 rpms.

OMG! Arrgh!

2000si youre right my 'stang is overweight and slow and ugly and inferior to Civics. I should trade it in for a civic so I can have those easy 13's and maybe if I try really hard I can have one of those really common 10 sec. Civics I see all the time flying past my slow a$$ mustang.

hey wait arent civics fwd? you know I like RWD... Oh my car has a V8 which I love the feel of... what civics have 4 cyl engines????? is that why they sound so different from my stang. Oh and my stang its a 'vert great for autumn days and nights... its 12 years old and has started evertime I've turned the key has yet to give me a problem(knock on wood.).. oh and Ive never lost to a Honda. EVER. Can I yeah sure and I'm sure someday I will, maybe, I've lost to lots of stangs, Camaros, a few vettes, a wrx sti, and a 50s mercury( black with the flames man that was a BADA$$ car)

I love to race it win or lose I enjoy driving as fast as I can. And if ever a civic beats me i'll give respect to the owner who made an econobox faster than my car. However having driven a few other peoples civics harder than was really needed I can tell you I'll never own one. No in fact if I can i'll never own anything fwd. Seriously to anyone who wants a Honda for performance good luck have fun I hope you love your car, if you make it quick enough to beat a stang or a vette or an enzo good on you, I wouldn't want it.

and I believe the reason jeggz lost was he hasn't worked out his shifting yet, once he does his 5.0 will smoke civics all over.

blah blah blah im mad everyone hijacked this thread into a civic vs ford thread. 200si, i dont get it...just cuz u had a ford bak in the day and it broke down a lot doesnt mean ALL fords are like that....hell my family has had fords ever since i can remember and you know what cars brandsbreak down more than the fords weve owned....chevys and hondas. we had a 94 civic that was literally a pos that broke down every few months, but hey, isnt honda supposed to have one of the best quality ratings? in fact, we have a 92 aerostar with 160,000 miles on it that still runs like a champ today. fords quality aint the best, but dont get on here and rag on it just cuz of that one ford u had broke down..civics are good cars, but lets face it, many kids (at least in northern va) rice the crap outta civics, its just cuz its a relatively cheap car. ive already punked out riced out civics in my little v6, whats that say about the stock civic? u even said urself, all cars have potential, as long as u put money and effort into a car, it can run 12s all day long....whered that philosophy go? we all know mustang gt arent the fastest cars in the world, but neither is a civic....its only game with MAJOR mods (sorry but a fart can and intake dont count as a major mod)

I have never said at ANY time that a Mustang is inferior to a Civc. What the hell post are you reading wayleft? How about you try reading my posts before you start trying to ramble on putting words in my mouth?

tight; every ford my family has ever owned has been a pile of crap. In fact every American car my family has ever owned has been a pile of crap.

The 88 dodge, crap. Even in 89.

the 91 Lumina. Crap. blew a headgasket while we were in Indy one year, out of nowhere... oh yeah this was shortly after we replaced the entire engine with one that only had 5k miles on it.

My moms Ford F150, actually I give Ford that one. It was a great truck until she got Tboned. My moms Blazer, lots of non-specific problems. My sisters Cavalier... ok Fine, I give you guys that one... she ruined that car.

its funny cuz most of the imports my family has owned, besides my brothers infiniti fx, has been in the shop more than anything....

did u have a lotta 80-early 90's fords? cuz most of those cars were crap bak then...it wasnt til like 98 or 99 that ford finally started making cars on par with some japanese auto makes
