Yours is one of the more believable posts I've seen on this topic. I do have a few questions...
I've heard that the MSRP for the basic GT500 coupe will be $38,500 - is this correct?
I've been told that the cars will be sold via the SVT network (not all Ford dealers will be able to sell the cars directly from Ford) with an initial allotment of 2 cars per SVT dealer - is this true?
If the cars are limited to the SVT dealers, does this mean the special SVT leave deal is transferable and I can swap my 2004 for a Shelby? (In fact, the wording in the lease leads me to believe this should place me at the front of any "line" and the price of the lease will be based upon MSRP.)
If the cars are sold only through the SVT dealers, and yet not badged as SVT's, is this Ford's cute way of getting around the terms of these lease contracts? (In case anyone is listening to this out there, expect a lawsuit over this if that's the plan).
i'm not sure if you heard yet or not, but the people who leased an '04 cobra or L will get to order their own shelby. go talk to your dealer! i can't wait to order mine!!!
That was my thought. I doubt it matters what Car & Driver or Carol Shelby says--these are not going to be let go for MSRP to the general public (anyone with an inside track, however, kudos to you!).
The auctions have already begun. On ebay, you'll find a number of dealerships auctioning off rights to buy for OVER MSRP. $15K was the minimum BuyItNow, $20K and $25K were also available. So for mere mortals, "asking price" is going to be more important/realistic than a published price (whenever it gets published) that no one will be able to enforce. We're looking at $55K - $65K as the average.

i dont think they should be able to do a mark up on them to where the average mustang guy who wants one and can afford a 40,000 to 50,000 cant be able to get one...
but hey a mustang with a ford gt engine detuned to 450 hp. you change a couple of things and your able to hit 500 to 600 hp no problem... i cant wait till they start hitting the road and people start modding them im interested in the amount of money it will take to hit certain hp marks...
me having ones out of the question unless i win the lottery...
Ratnacage, As seeing as you are getting a few GT 500's let me ask you this, how far are you going to go over MSRP?
And why?
Lets see how honest your dealership is.
From the reply I got when I asked Shelby Auto Inc about whats going on, they do not seem real pleased about the new high in greed the dealers seem to be hitting.
I would laugh my butt off if in respose to the greedy dealers that seem to be hitting a new low, Ford would start producing enough GT 500's to sell to anyone who wanted one maybe in 07 after people spent that 20 to 40 grand over MSRP to get one, poor old Henry just rolling in his grave to see what has become of Ford, and to think this was the company that started out holding on to there workers and even hiring though the depression, till Ford almost when bankrupt.
ORIGINAL: murph Well I got the call from my dealer today. He faxed me the options sheet and told me to make my selections. There are only a few options, which you can mostly read about in any of the Stang mags out there. The important part..........No info on price yet from Ford. My rep wasn't happy about not being able to give me a figure but it works in my favor because he told me that without a price I am not bound to buy the car. So I basically get to equip it how I want and get the first right to refusal once the price figures come in etc. I'll keep you all posted.
PS has anyone seen the pics of the rear of the car. Ford sold out on the slim, 3rd brake light integrated into the spoiler and used the standard trunk mount 3rd brake light thereby pushing the SHELBY letters over to the left side of the trunk instead of centered so boldly like they were on the prototype. Who the heck makes these stupid decisions???!! Ford really irks me when they "go cheap" like that without any regard for asthetics. Alright enough venting, I will keep you all posted.
Thanks for all the new info, Murph! Interesting, VERY interesting... I can't wait to see all the other little things that get "canned"! "C"
FYI - I got a call from my Central Florida dealer rep today, by the way Ratnacage I don't know what kind of strings these guys are pulling, but they are getting 11 (ELEVEN) GT500's (so much for the allocation theories! ) My rep who has been awesome as far as updates, etc. told me that they are getting three extra based on winning the president's award, they are a SVT dealership, and one other reason. I am number four on the list. It's funny because I have money down at a South Florida dealership and am number four on their list as well and have received ZERO info from then (that's why I don't have anymore updates for you as far as that list goes GBPackerFan).
Like CrimeScene said I think it is going to be all about the greed factor. Last march when I started calling around trying to get on waiting lists one Ft. Laud area dealer refused to take a deposit and another stated flat out that "those cars would be for the GM and his buddies" . My rep advised me last November that they were looking for UP TO $10k over sticker but told me that many Orlando and Tampa area dealers were looking to get $15-20K. I still haven't been advised of a price but since that is the case I am not bound to purchase the car either.
FYI2- I found out the Le Mans and rocker stripes are vinyl , not painted on like on the FORD GT. What a bummer!

its got a completely differnt front end....the headlight buckets and all that is totally differnt, the spoiler....some other stuff.....the fact its actually a real shelby and not someones customization of a regular old stang....etc. dont forget the facti ts making 475 hp out of its 5.4L supercharged engine....dosent sound like a decorated GT to me........
as for this california special and the boss and whatever else is coming out....u can say that unless they are going to have something that really seperates them.

Exactly Shifty! My head spins everytime I see a 911, let alone a 911 Turbo. With the money I am spending on the Shelby I could buy a 2-3 yr used 911 or a Viper and probably get more looks from the ladies and enter the exotic car class .......... but I don't care. I am on my 3rd Stang and realize there are cars that will outperform the Shelby hands down, however this car isn't going to be a daily driver, it's going to sit in the garage inside a bubble until the rainy season subsides in South Fla. I never thought once about buying another Mustang, but once I saw that Shelby was hooking up with SVT and Ford I had to have one. Hopefully it will be a collector's car, worst case scenario I can always sell it. It's not like I am going to lose my ass on it, there are plenty of potential buyers it seems.
As far as greed goes, this is America and allowing the market to determine price is not "greedy." Believe me, I've been in this business for only 11 months, and I've been the "buyer" many many times, and only now understand the issues on the other side of the table. For some reason, everyone that walks into a dealership seems to think they're being ripped off if the dealer makes a profit, however slim. This is retarded. All of you either work for a company, or perhaps own your own. How would any of you collect a paycheck if there wasn't a profit involved somewhere - how about if you were paid in accordance with what your expenditures were - you know, to each according to his need? Sound familiar?
It's not "dishonest" to sell to the highest bidder - no one is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to pay X over sticker. They do it because they want the car and are "willing" participants. Dishonesty is when a dealer tricks a buyer into paying more than what was agreed to, or delivers something other than what was promised. This is not the case here.
Just because you want something at a price YOU can afford doesn't mean the market has to bow down to you. Patience!
And on that note we just got confirmation of our first GT500, white with blue stripes VIN# 1ZVHT88S775197709, due mid to late summer.
how do the saleens compare to this? power and pricing?
I am SERIOUSLY considering this 07 GT500 or getting a Saleen perhaps
GT500 - approx 475bhp using 5.4 V8 block price $40k+ (no price set but could be upto $60k with greedy dealers)
Saleen S281sc - 425bhp using 4,6 V8 block, price $52k-$60k depending on extras
from reading as much as possible about the two as im looking to buy the saleen also, the saleen has higher spec brakes, suspension, interior etc (waits for backlash on my comments!)
for 1.. correct me if im wrong but the '06 saleen(extreme) has 550bhp
and for you guys saying that the price of the new shelby is to much for the average mustang guy... well IT SHOULD BE! its not an average mustang.. its limited and made by a man who has CHANGED THE AUTOMOBILE HISTORY.. the car will be worth every penny imo.. its not an ordinary mustang.. its a shelby cobra gt500 cmon now.. with the minor things you can do to it you will spank practically anything.. now i probably wont own one till im 50 and even then i probably wont because things will change but lemme tell u its going to hold its value very well.. i mean cmon 03/04 cobras are still costing more then at 05-06 gt by me.. they go up to 35,000 i understand its a "mustang" but im sure whatever the price is assuming its from 38k-55k your still getting a good deal

I agree with you 100% and also with ratinacage about the "greedy" dealers. Even though I am a purchaser and would love to get a "deal", I am happy to have just been able to order one, let alone pay up to $10k (per my dealer) over sticker for one.
This car and none of the Cobra's for that matter have ever been an average mustang and for the average guy. The Shelby GT 500 should be praised and appreciated by all mustang fans even if it is out of their reach, for this car has and will give the Ford Mustang much more "street cred" among the muckity mucks driving high end performance cars that are really out of reach.
I am just waiting for the new challenger, screw that. I went to a dealership and wanted to order one and they said they were getting 3 in!!! So I was all pumped and wanted to put a $20k deposit on it, however the salesmanager said oh sorry I am getting one, the dealership owner is getting one, and some other dude is. Then he said basically that I have no hope in hell getting one. So I said right to his face "well you made up my mind then, I will wait until the new challenger comes out and get the SRT-8. It will be something different, and there won't be as many on the road"
Sorry guys I love mustangs, but when the dealerships want to increase the price soo high over MSRP and sell the cars to their employees rather than loyal and return customers, that is just not good PR. mmmmm challenger

i cant see spending that much for a gt w/ a stripe and a bigger engine. Id rather have an older viper
Me either. Look at the 65-70 Shelby's. Just Mustangs with stripes and some engine work that are worth nothing more than any other 65-70 Mustang these days...
wrong. shelby's now a days are worth WAY more than regular 65-70 mustangs. you wana buy a really nice 67 gt500, better have at least 150k.
I think he was being sarcastic.

I saw on Ebay you can buy a $15,000 contract to garuntee you can get one. I think that is nuts. I would use that $ to mod the hell out of a reg GT. But if you are filthy rich I would do it
