What would be the best year for the Cobra? Looking at maybe upgrading from my 90 fox. Did they all come with a supercharger? (excluding the 93) How does the insurance compare to like a GT? Thanks.

03?

03/04 are the only ones w/ an SC.

They are the best.

INsurance is considerably higher than a GT.

Considerably with my company means Times 4 per year.

Forged internals, T56 transmission & IRS, much tougher than your GT/Mach 1's.

03/04 are the only Cobra's that came supercharged. The symbol (insurance companies use this rating) will determine your rates along with your driving record.

Going from an 02 GT to my 04 Cobra increased my premium by only 150 bucks.

04...Some 03 Cobras were recalled due to being way underpowered and issues with the T/C. If you buy a used one from an owner with an 03 definitely ask for verification it was either not a recalled car or that it was fixed properly.

no 03's to my knowledge have been recalled. And I have my fair share of knowledge about terminators......

99 cobras were recalled for being way underpowered. This might be what you were refering to.

Mmm...that may be the year it applies to. I know the 03 had something wrong with them...TC maybe was wacky on them or you could not turn it off?? I know there was something about the 03 I didn't like.

The 99-01's IMO are very good choices...they weigh less than a Terminator Cobra..and most have had the power recall done...they have better handling and front/rear weight distribution too.....however in a straight line the Terminators of course are superior...but nothing a Kenne Bell or a Vortech S/C won't fix....

03/04 are definately the best, but you get a 96-98 and throw a blower on it and you will have close to 500rwhp.... just another option... I can't afford an 03/04 [:@]

I liked the 00' Cobra R's, minus that wing that came on them. 5.4L engine w/ 385 hp @ 6250 rpm.

http://www.svt.ford.com/svtArchiveCompareCobra.asp?vehicle_one=cobra_r00&vehicle_two=nothing&vehicle_three=nothing

Then again it was not much of a daily driver car. "the 2000 R came stripped of any stock feature not needed for track use or that would add excess weight."

<-- 97 Cobra right here. They started the cobra line up again in 93, then in 94 SVT was started, so 93-99 there were cobra's, no cobra in 00 except the very rare cobra R, one in 01, not sure about 02 since they went through a redesign engine wise, then 03-04 was SC'd. 93 and 00 were the cobra R's which are very rare compared to the regular cobra's.

03 or 04. All have forged internals so as far as supercharger potential there you go. You can do a few pulley swaps and tunes for HUGE gains. Handle 700+ hp easy on stock 32v engine.

I think this is totally preference. I'm partial to the 2001 with the IRS. Wheel hop does suck, but my eibach springs cleared that up. Kenne Bell makes a couple of really nice setups for sc's. The 01's are going to be cheaper to buy and I actually like them more. Like I said though, I thinkalot isgoing to preference.

there is nothing wrong with the 03's except the gas padal recall which consists of putting a plastic plate under the gas pedal so that it cannot get hung up in the carpet.

Insurance cost really depends on your situation. I'm 28, married, never had a claim (knock on wood), and currently no points - the diff between the '02 GT and the '99 Cobra was barely noticable.

You need to clarify what your expectations and your budget is that would def help out. Also what body style you prefer.
If your bujget allows the 03-04 is the king of the hill.
1. 03-04 Cobra- Big Daddy, Pure sex with all the goodies.
2. 03-04 Mach 1- Pull low 13's Bone stock with a 4v.
3. 99-01 Cobra- Plentifull and can be found under 13K for a nice one. Mid 13's with a decent driver, no low end Torque but it pulls great up top.
4.96-98 Saleen- These can be supercharged and had for around 12K-17K Sweet suspension and a killer Body kit.(Personally my favorite)
5. 96-98 Cobra- Plenty out there can be had from 7K-10K Probably a 14.0 car stock.
6. 94-95 Cobra- Kinda rare but not too expensive 5K-8K
7. 93 Cobra- If you get a clean one Garage it!!
If it were my choice I would probably go with a S281E or an 01 Cobra.

I would say the 2004 cobra, the termis are the best car ford ever made, but the 03's had a few kinks in it....the hood chips, they had problems with head tick, im pretty sure theres something else. I have an 03 and love but if i had my chance id prolly go for an 04, really a flawless and sick car man. Insurance will be affected by where you live, your age, and your driving record most importantly. You can go online to most insurance places and get a quote in a few mins. g/l

I dunno about you guys and your insurance, but I have Allstate and pay the same for my 03 Cobra as I do for my 97 GT. About $150 per month total for both.

head tick is in both years. My 03 doesnt have the tick and ive never heard of hood chiping. The only difference is the earlier heads have less threads for the plugs which shouldnt be a problem. All years need pedal recall

I dont think I would say they are vet killers. The vetts have better suspension , and brake the chassis are not from 20 years ago. But what I will say is there isnt a car out there for $22k that comes close to a 03 /04 cobra you can add all the suspension and brakes you want for way less than a vett.
I did race a new vet I had more power , but at 125 mph on the hiway around a sweeping turn the stock suspension in the cobra rolls bad and becomes unsafe. i just had more balls than the guy driving the vett.
vetts are really nice cars I would love to have one just not for $30k more than my cobra!

03/04 cobras are the best cobras the power and handling (IRS) always puts a smile on my face when I take the 360 degree off ramp to my house at 65 mph

i have put my car around some highway curves at welll above 140 and i thought the car took it fine with very little body roll what soever. it is the most sure footed car i have ever driven.

limp1969
02-13-2008, 08:34 PM
Like I said bang for the buck!
I am by no means bagging on the cars we own but if you have done nothing to the suspension on your car it is the same as mine. It is an out dated chassis a fox body chassis thats old! 1984?

Mine has body rolled like my steel framed harley, im not saying the vett didnt but look at the specs on chevy website for a new vett(the cheaper one). It was the first thing I did after I raced one they are awesome. 3 different types of suspension. It is a know fact 03/04 cobras have to light of springs and the chassis flex . Just go drive a $100k turbo porsche if you want the most sure footed car you have ever driven it is way above our cars!

Have you ever taken your car to a track? Not a drag strip. One day and the brake rotor, pads are wasted, and you will see the handling problems. It can be fixed for $$ if you want a race car
