Guys, help educate me on this topic.  I am going to buy a stang this week and I have been doing some extensive research on the various models and which ones the dealers have in my area. I have selected 3:a 99'Cobra, 01'Bullitt, 01'GT. They are all the same price so I guess the best "bang" for my buck would be the SVT.  Ok, but my research tells me that the 99' year SVT Cobra had a loss of power due to the exhaust, and intake, or maybe even a design flaw. It was also stated that some of the models were affected. How will I know, besides a dyno test, that the car on the lot is or isn't affected with this problem; if this problem is true! Now lets asume I now own the affected car and it is not producing the 320 horses as advertised, what should I do?

Well, without a dyno, you will never know what kind of power you're putting out. And if you do buy it, and it's a lemon, then theres nothing that you can do about it. As bad as that sounds, its true. I'm sure the warranty is out, so theres nothing you could do. But, I've never heard of anyone having those problems. My friend has a 99 cobra, and he's never had any problems. Hope this helps.

Bang for buck that seems good...but how many Bullits did they make?  those might (probably will) be worth more down the line...right?

There was a recall on all of the affected '99 Cobras. That is why you can't find a 2000 Cobra. If the car is one of the low power cars, you can take it in and get it "fixed". The cars made less than their advertised HP ratings and Ford was on their way to a PR nightmare because of it. So they put their engineers back to work to fix the situation.

Oh, ok, I never knew that. Do you guys know what was wrong with them by some chance? So it is fixed, right? lol Yeah, that does sound right Jugador, never thought of that. They probably would be worth more down the line, especially if it was taken very good care of.

I read an article in MM & FF about it.  Yeah converted it was the intakes, and the actual horsepower was nowhere near 320.  Something like 220 or 230 rwh.  They took one dude's 99 cobra and did the entire article on the fixes for it and what ford did to these cars afterwards.  Very interesting.  The guy also got his car fixed for free.

Guess I learn something new everyday. Glad ford got that taken care of before the new cobras came out!

Actually, believe it or not, the insurance isn't that bad at all. Also depends on where you live and what insurance company you have insurance with, along with your driving record.
