are you auto or manual? i have seen the new Z cars getting into the 13s with the track models...and decent tires...NISMO offers factory minor power adders like intake and exhaust, with dyno sheet backed numbers...

Not to be a dick, but he MEANS 287 hp models not 387. those cars are pretty sweet, but i think you would have him from a roll. His torque(274ft/lbs) isnt really up to par with yours. He also does not have the weight advantage on you like most other imports. He weighs 3400+ to your 3200+. I think you can take him. I know this "magazine racing" , but from the specs, I think you got it.

im not trying to paper race, but what does your car run, 00stang37? do you know? a good driver in a 350z track model should be able to get into the 13s, especially with the various nismo bolt ons.

also, stillen makes a roots style supercharger for them...

the rest of the car was a bit much for me...he had so much stereo crap packed into the back seat and trunk that it probably needs that blower to run like a stock 350z.

On the highway I want to say that you would have had him, because your top end should be a little better. From a dead stop I'm not sure it would probably be a drivers race.

I wish the VQ35's responded well to bolt ons. 350Z's would be absolute monsters if a CAI or an exhaust actually netted any horsepower.

i have a 5 spd. i was thinking our cars were about even. i didnt realize that they were heaiver than my car. it wasnt loud at all. i didnt hear any exhaust. it looked to be the normal stock model. i would say im an average driver. im no "racing wonder". ive never had my car at the track, i want to get more mods on my car before i go. hopefully i see the guy again or at least another 350z. thanks

The 350z coupe weighs more like 3200 lbs. and the convertible weighs around 3400 lbs.
Weightwise they look to be about the same. 260hp/302tq (mustang) vs. 287hp/274 tq (350z)
i've seen numerous timeslips from stock 350z coupes with the 287hp engine making it into the 13s and some get around 13.65, in there somewhere. it looks like the '05+ gts will slightly beat it out, but '04 and before generally lose.

Yea, they respond TERRIBLE to mods. I remember reading in Sport Compact Car awhile back (when they took that white R34 onto the strip in cali) when nismo did cams and full bolt ons and suspension to a 350 Z. They reduced their quarter mile time by a TENTH OF A SECOND. One tenth. Thats absolutely sad.

yeah, true that. i spend a lot of time on a 350z board, and with every single bolton including cams, they're lucky to break 300whp. forced induction is the only way to make real power with the vq35. however, some stroker kits have been released as well putting out some decent power, but they're still not as cost effective/power as FI.

iv seen many 350z on late model gt's ('00+)
on the track the stang will win, but because the highway is all about high speeds, the 350z will toast the stang

not to sound like a ricer, but it is true, sometimes it is not just power that wins you the race

for example, 2 nights ago me any my buddy who has had a stock celica went decided to put our cars to the test.
of cource, me having the stang puts the celica to shame with almost double the power and more than double the engine size.

on the small scale races from stop lights and rolls, i toasted his ass and served it with jam
but when we hit highway, that was all his turf, from 60, i blast off to the hundreds in a couple seconds, leaving him a bit behind, but a couple seconds later he zips right by me at ~230mph while i am left in the mid to low end 100's

STOCK CELICA GT
a car that is considered wussie to the import world
imagine a 350z on the highway

I really hope you meant 230 kph... because a 140 hp Celica isn't going to hit 230 mph.
