Not anymore, the McLaren has a top speed of around 240 mph, while the Bugatti EB 16/4 Veyron has a top speed of more than 252 mph. But actually there is one car that tops all the others, it was built in 1990 and there is only one of them, its the Chevy Corvette Callaway Sledgehammer, the worlds fastest street legal car. Pushing nearly 880 hp the top speed is 254.7 mph. But of your talking about acceleration, the 2000 Chevy Camaro ZL1 running 572 c.i. 770 H.P. 683Lbs.torque shot out from 0-60 in just 2.7 seconds.

132 MPH??? uh, ya know what? It couldnt have been stock. Of this I am sure. The old beater runs 11's at 110-115. 132 mph is down there around 10.3-9.90. To run that MPH he has got to have something else besides the stock engine. That MPH is not something many cars are capable of, espcially on DR's. If its a typo, then all is good. if not, someone isnt being honest. It takes a whole lot more than 320 hp to run 132, especially in something that is about 3200-3500 lbs.
Oh and BTW, I dont give a rat F*** what Car and Driver say, or any mag for that matter. Its all what each car can do with what it has been given. I have seen cars runn all over the place that are supposed to run this or that. Just cause some goofball at a magazine who writes for a living and doesnt know what happens when you change LSA or dur @.050 doesnt mean that is what all of them will run. Its what he got on that day, a comparable baseline is all it is. What YOU get on the timeslip is what is important to YOU.
$$ to power, I will take an old beater bought for $100-200 and built up huge engies, lightened to run as fast as possible for about $5k. Usually I get them to go 12' and 11's streetable.
Does that sound like an attitude? Not mean to be mean. SMILE!!

Yeah only a 12.29. Not fast at all by race car standards. Pretty quick as far as daily drivers. If you need a 5000 stall 15 inch wide tires and a second stage of spray to get there, its not to impressive though... ON motor small tires etc, its fun and cool numbers. Way out there bow down to the master for import guys, they just dont like to admit it, do they?

Who can afford it? A Fox 5.0 with the right mods will smoke a stock viper. And do it pretty cheaply. Get an older car like a Firebird with a 455 in it, add some ported heads a mild cam a 2200 stall and lighten it to about 3400 lbs, leave the 3.08-3.42 gears in it and you will be smoking vipers all day long for less than $5k for everything including the car.
Put a 351C or W in an older car (add some good heads like Victors or AFR's on the windsor) a healthy cam, 3.55-4.11 gears, long tube headers sticky tires, lighten it some and you have mid 11's there too. Easy and best of all Cheap on insurance built price but they will burn some more gas. injection is nice for mileage.
Did you know an LS1 can run 11's get 28-30 mpg highway and do it with a stock engine? Even with highway gears 2.73-3.42 and an automatic!!!
I have a 2002 Z06, and trust me, it won't run 12.2 stock. Best I've got is a 12.6. And there's no way the vipers run in the 11's. they run low 12's, about 12.2-12.4. Actually, the Vette and Viper run a lot closer than you think. Not door to door, obviously, but if a vette gets a viper off the light, it WILL be door to door at the end of the track! As for the cobra's, they run 12.9-13.1 on average. I could easily get my vette to a 12.4-12.5, with a few more runs. Depends on time of day and humidity as well. Anyways, these cars are great. I don't care much for the viper, for I think it is VERY overpriced. It has 500 HP, yes, but it only runs within a few tenths quicker than the vette and it only gets around 10 MPG as opposed to the vettes' average 20 MPG, which is amazing for such a sports car, don't ya think? I am getting a new cobra, so I will be in a good position to compare performance in both cars. Just my $.02.
Hey man, what do you do for a living? I need a better paying job so i can have neat toys like you!

i did something really dumb last night.................
i revved at a late 90's viper. i mean comeon, i was doing it for a joke, but this guy, turned his car around, in the middle of traffic and pulled up next to me at a light and wanted to race. i mean comeon i wish i had a camera cause this viper was riced out. it has some goofy tribal graphics, some green underbody neons, and a HUGE rice wing, i just looked at him and laughed, but he was pissed and wanted to race, so i just let him take off and race himself. and plus there was a cop up ahead and he didnt know! lol haha dumbass.
