Default CAN’T FIND THE VIBRATI

I'm a little new at this but I'm very glad I found this forum.

'89 Stang with the 2.3, 5-speed: Right at about 55 or 60mph I get a vibration like a wheel bearing regardless of the road.At that speed if I lay into it or get off of it you feel it but if I give it enough gas just to engage the tranny it will quite down. I had almost the same thing happen to me with a truck of mine that has the 9 inch rearend and it was wheel bearings so I replaced the rear wheel bearings and it did not help. The car has about 180K miles on the clock and the clutch was feeeling weak so I replaced it (thinking that it for some reason that might have something to do with it) but... no. I had already replaced the front bearings whenI first got the car about 2 1/2yrs ago. In a last ditch effort I got a different set of tires for the front thinking that they might have been the problem but.... no.

I'm running out of places to look for problems. When I replaced the rear bearings the differential checked out fine,no broke teeth, plenty of fluid, and really for as many miles, not bad on wear. Universal joints are still tight, motor and tranny mounts are decent, and it seems that the drive shaft damper is still intact.

The last place to look would be the 5-speed. Does this mean that my tranny is on the way out? Should I start looking for parts to finish up the 302 and C4 before my current combo takes a dump on me?

Any advice or help or questions? Let me here from the wise MustangForum.

Thank you.

wouldn't the tire shop have said something if I had a bent rim? Hell for that matter I have the 10 hole 15 inch alloy mustang rims on it. Can they be bent and not broken? Besides, this has been a fiarly recent occurance and the wheels have been on it for about 2 of the 2 1/2 yrs I've had it.

I'm sure that it needs an alignment but I din't know that it would cause a grinding-vibration. I have not tried putting it in neutral going down the highway so I'll try that next and keep you all posted. I'll also try to get an appointment with the alignment shop. I mean DAMMIT MAN,It's got to be something.

Thanks forthe different veiws
