View Full Version : Radar Detectors AmericanMuscle 11-05-2005, 02:45 AM What's a good brand to go with for radar detectors? MustangChris04 11-05-2005, 03:20 AM If u want the best, get the valentine 1 but its gonna cost you. http://www.valentine1.com/ has never failed for me, prolly saved from 20 tickets, alerts you like 1/2 - 1 mile before u even pass the cop, and tells you where they are. Hisss04Cobra 11-05-2005, 03:26 AM I bought the cobra from walmart for 93$. I'm yet to get a ticket with it...:D wwmost 11-05-2005, 10:45 AM ORIGINAL: XbcSharpShooter If u want the best, get the valentine 1 but its gonna cost you. http://www.valentine1.com/ has never failed for me, prolly saved from 20 tickets, alerts you like 1/2 - 1 mile before u even pass the cop, and tells you where they are. yea same hear. i bought the V1 a long time ago and updated it a couple times, the best one out there. there is also one called the passport 8500 or somthing like that. but i like the v1 better because you can update it so you have the most up to date radars. and the arrows are cool:) mustangman02232 11-05-2005, 03:31 PM ORIGINAL: XbcSharpShooter If u want the best, get the valentine 1 but its gonna cost you. http://www.valentine1.com/ has never failed for me, prolly saved from 20 tickets, alerts you like 1/2 - 1 mile before u even pass the cop, and tells you where they are. probably saved me from jail. Thats the best you can buy. Best range, and best warning system too. Also has a concieled (sp?) display option. Birdieman4 11-05-2005, 04:56 PM I have used both the Valentine and the Passport 8500. I like the Passport better for these reasons. The Passport 8500 X50 seems to be better at picking up 'pop' radar. Also, with the Valentine, it seems to give you a lot more false alarms than the X50. They are the 2 best units around, and you really can't go wrong with either. But, the Passport is less expensive than the Valentine, so I think it is the best all around buy. I will never trade my Passport for anything else. 11-05-2005, 07:45 PM ORIGINAL: XbcSharpShooter If u want the best, get the valentine 1 but its gonna cost you. http://www.valentine1.com/ has never failed for me, prolly saved from 20 tickets, alerts you like 1/2 - 1 mile before u even pass the cop, and tells you where they are. Unless he waits until you're right by him and then flips it on and tags you. MustangChris04 11-05-2005, 08:00 PM thats true, but most cops are sitting back drinking their morning coffee and eating their donuts so there to lazy ;) mustangman02232 11-05-2005, 10:44 PM ORIGINAL: Birdieman4 I have used both the Valentine and the Passport 8500. Yeah, I'd hate to pay extra for a name brand.. but I do like the upgrade features along with the arrows and dual radar pickup.. countit2 11-05-2005, 11:36 PM anyone ever use cobra detector AmericanMuscle 11-06-2005, 12:21 AM ORIGINAL: countit2 anyone ever use cobra detector From what I've been reading, if you want a wallmart special detector for > $100.. get the cobra, but they have VERY limited response time to any bands of detection, and I wouldn't trust them as much as V1, Bel, or Escort. I'm kind've leaning toward an Escort 8500 x50.. only because the price is more reasonable. $400 For a v1 is a bit much.. and the bands are pretty close. Btw, can anyone tell me the difference between the 8500 X50 Red and Blue? The blue is 50 more, and I can't figure out why? Color preference lol? Cain8768 11-06-2005, 02:46 PM go with the escort passport detector, my friend has one and it always beeds about 1/2 - 3/4 mile before we see the cop. AmericanMuscle 11-06-2005, 03:58 PM ORIGINAL: Cain8768 go with the escort passport detector, my friend has one and it always beeds about 1/2 - 3/4 mile before we see the cop. It seems to me like a matter of preference.. some people prefer the Escort 8500 x50 because it doesn't "false" as much as the Valentine 1.8, and has similar stats in the "K" bands, not to mention $150 less.. Others prefer the Valentine 1.8 over the Escort 8500 x50 because it can pickup the faster z series pop guns (16 ms), picks up some types radars on stealth mode that the Escort doesn't, and has the arrow system (which will send mixed signals with overhead bridges, some brake lights, and road signs). So I guess it comes down to what kind of driving you do and which you prefer. Can anyone swallow their pride and say whether they've gotten a ticket since having either? Or a bel? 11-06-2005, 04:40 PM i have the 7500, have had it for about two years. I love it. Mixed driving, some spirited, mostly sane driving and I've yet to get a ticket. There's a few times that I bust out on the highway and get tagged by a sheriff coming the other way, but I see the Ka about a mile away. Car_Ramrod 11-06-2005, 04:47 PM i thought they cant use radar when theyre going the other way cuz of the way it works...you hafta be standing still for the whole concept of radar to work. maybe theres newer technology...i dont kno how laser works...but i thought they had to be standing still for all of them. 11-06-2005, 06:09 PM ORIGINAL: Car_Ramrod i thought they cant use radar when theyre going the other way cuz of the way it works...you hafta be standing still for the whole concept of radar to work. maybe theres newer technology...i dont kno how laser works...but i thought they had to be standing still for all of them. Newer systems have a speedo connection. So they CAN tag you from a moving car. It'll just subtract in car speed from clocked speed and find the difference. StickShifty 11-07-2005, 03:03 AM solo S2, its really good, and cordless too, battery lasts for about a month too. goes off even before you can ever see the cop, or the cop can see you:D( if they have the radar on, and its pionted at you.) vfast 11-08-2005, 01:56 PM bel pro rx65..what I use Djs94stang 11-08-2005, 02:54 PM I use a whistler that I got from an online store for $99. It's a 1783 or 93. I bought one for each of my vehicles. I just can't bring myself to spend the money on an Escort or V1 when the whistler works fine. The laser detection is even decent or so it seems. I get hit with it nearly everytime I go through CT. So far the whistler has saved be from a couple dozen tickets easily. 11-09-2005, 12:28 AM ORIGINAL: Djs94stang I use a whistler that I got from an online store for $99. It's a 1783 or 93. Only times I've ever been hit with laser is going near Airports. In fact, I drove to Findlay Ohio today in my car and the only two places the Laser went off was by Findlay's Airport and another small munciple place near just west of Van Wert. Idrum88 11-09-2005, 12:47 AM how do those 40 dollar whistlers work....or is this a waste?? AmericanMuscle 11-09-2005, 01:49 AM ORIGINAL: Idrum88 how do those 40 dollar whistlers work....or is this a waste?? Works better then guessing.. but you get what you pay for. I intend on going with the escort 8500 x50 or valentine 1.8 personally (leaning towards the v1). StickShifty 11-10-2005, 12:14 AM buy the good ones, i bought a $90 radioshack special, and it sucked, pickup up radar when you were right up on top of the cop. then i threw that in the garbage and bought a 300 dollar one. and it was def. worth it, saved me a couple of times. so sensative. def. worth the money to get the better ones. 11-10-2005, 12:26 AM ORIGINAL: StickShiftyGT buy the good ones, i bought a $90 radioshack special, and it sucked, pickup up radar when you were right up on top of the cop. then i threw that in the garbage and bought a 300 dollar one. and it was def. worth it, saved me a couple of times. so sensative. def. worth the money to get the better ones. werd. MustangChris04 11-23-2005, 10:04 PM on ebay a while ago this guy was selling a c6 corvette mirror with the Valentine 1 detector built into it. I've had LASER warnings in Chicagos smaller airport, Ft Wayne Int'l and Indianapolis' airport. When that laser warning goes off it's LOUD and instant. It always scares the **** out of me. CTXpitcher09 11-24-2005, 03:03 PM Go with the Passport 8500 X50 I just got it and it is bad a$$. Ninety5five0 12-01-2005, 09:49 PM I have a cheap whistler, one that one of my friends stole and gave to me cuz he didnt have his license. The radar warning goes off about 2 or 3 minutes before i see the cop on the highway. Although i did get a ticket with it when i was hit by laser, for some reason there was no advanced warning, when i heard it go off is when he hit me. other than that it works fine, and good enough for being free. I aslo bought a radar/laser scrambler, i got a ticket while it was on, but i think the cop is full of tihs. My dad drives semi and he had one of them and he said it worked really well and he never got a ticket with it. The company who makes it will pay your ticket if it is under 15mph over the speed limit. which they left that part out when i bought it, but i run that radar detector and the scrambler at the same time, pretty good combination. The company is rocky mountain radar and the scrambler is called the phaser II . it is around 150 or so M1ke 12-03-2005, 06:43 PM http://www.k40.com/home_main.html modified magazine did a test of one of the k40 systems in early 04 late 03 idk the date of this article but i ripped it out and kept it. they just came out with a wireless version using bluetooth. that link is their site. There is another long thread about this somewhere, i think on here, if not maybe MPH forums but someone brought up a good point. if the cop really wants to get your speed, he will. he'll use the pop mode or laser (im not sure if they are different) and unless you are behind someone - which you arent if your at WOT - then your a sitting duck. |
