hey, i am actually doing almost the same exact thing.  i have a 93 2.3 L stang and i am in the process of rebuilding a 5.0 for it.  i do not think the 5.0 engine from the grand marquis is a good idea.  i was actually going to take that route, but when i talked to many ppl about, they said the 5.0 from a grand marquis is crap and they told me to get a 302 HO (high output).  i was lucky enough to buy a whole parts car which was a 90 gt, and i think that is the best way to go.  the grand marquis engine isnt worth the time, i highly suggest that u get the 302 engine.  the engine would not be as powerful and the results would not be gratifying.  hope this helps.  good luck. post again if u have any more questions.  like i said, its possible, but not worth the time and effort.

its freakin expensive to do. not to mention the stress the 5.0 would be doing to the rest of your car(the parts arent close to being the same). ive seen a site where someone got 400 horsepower out of a turbo 2.3 so check that out.

any 5.0 regardless is a 302, and a 302 is a 302.  sure HO or whatnot may be better, but a v-8 is still torquey no matter what.  why is that not worth the time?  the whole swap in general isnt worth the time.  shoulda just used the donor car and fixed it up.

thats why most people dont do it.  and only a fool wouldnt replace those things...which is where the difficulty comes in.  the rearend for one, probably the suspension, and lots of other crap.  fuel system.  its not worth it unless you enjoy a challenge...big time.

well i do like challenges, and considering i have a mechanic as a brother, things are working out just fine. it is more gratifying to complete such a project.  and the two 302's are different, u can ask ford, or at least thats what they told me.  well i guess the company who made the engine could be lying................

it's the same displacement.  most likely different heads or something.  i wouldnt doubt its the same engine block in fact.  but if gt-40 heads will fit it none of that matters.

ok well it maybe the same block, but that engine didn't have roller lifters, or rockers.  also, the cam was different and the duration or the lift was horrible.  i am just saying that the engines are a little bit different b/c my dad used to drive a grand marquis 5.0 and so i was just stating the fact that the grand marquis engine could work, but its not nearly as much hp or torque.

I agree, turboing it will yield some great power.  The stock 85 turbos would do 12s all day. We used to have an SVO.

its cheaper to drop in a v8 that build a 2.3 to handle a turbo.  The svo engine has low compression pistons, drop that turbo on a stock regular 2.3 and you gonna have some problems to deal with.

the compression ratio on the 2.3L is around 9.5:1 out of the factory, putting a turbo on that engine would be like alot of people who think you can put a turbo on a honda and not do any enternals, you will have some serious problems. In the end the 5.0 swap might be easier and cheaper. You wouldn't need to swap that many parts out. As an example someone said something about swapping a rear end, you wouldn't need to do that until your making some good HP, a 7.7 rearend will hold a stock 5.0 hp. But if you plan on building the 5.0 up you will have to make "upgrades" to the stock 2.3 setup.
