Default 302 Rebiuld Question

I am gettin a engine biult this winter for my fox. I was going to get a 306 but before I go and do that I was wondering something if anyone can help me. So when people get a Stroker Kits they are give the engine more stroke and more cubes obviously. But can you keep your stock rotation assemly and run .040 board pistons without the extra stroke? When you build a 306 you just get the sleeves bored ,030 over and get it balanced. bla bla bla.. why cant you get a .40 or.60 overboard and keep the stock assembley?

Soo why dont more people do that on a budget rebiuld? I know increasing the strok gives your some extra Hp but roughly how much and is it worth it?

it all depends on the setup.. if you go all out... aka heads, cam, etc... then you could prob get round 350.

its all in the price.

I got a 308 shortblock (bored 0.040) for $1200 canadian
a 331 shortblock is only bored 0.030 over and is about $2900 canadian
a 347 shortblock is bored 0.030 over and is about $3500 canadian.
stroker kits require a new stroker crankshaft and longer connecting rods.

331 crank has a 3.25 stroke and 5.40 rods.
347 crank has a 3.40 stroke and 5.40 rods.

with good heads a 347 can make up to 375 hp with the right cam.
a 331 mabye 350
and a 306 will make mabye 300.

Hey Siler where abouts in Canada you from? I phoned the machine shop doing my work and got the low down on all the bore and stroke figures, how many ponies are you running with your setup on the 308? I have the mods listed below I am going to be running a Edelbrock performer Rpm Cam and lifters with this setup and a 308 I should be pretty close to 300 at the wheels I figure anyways. I am quoted 1700 for the work through the Lordco Machine Shop they are doing the full rebuild and assembling my timing chain and cam.

try again on those numbers buddy. go on www.corral.net or www.steelcitystangs.com and look for a guy named pure stock. he has a stock bottom end 302 that just put down 337rwhp and 330rwtq NA. he just has cam, heads and intake
ive seen 347s put down mid 400s to the wheels with a good cam, head and intake combo

budget build ups is why you see an average of low numbers for combos. and this is why ppl give bad reps to these motors. ppl do budget buildups and tell everyone they have a 347 blah blah and only put down 340 to the wheels or so. but its also nice that that happens. cause you get a serious 347 and ppl think nothing much of you and bam your low 11s/high 10s NA with just a 347

Understood I called my machine shop and got all my number figured out, I am new to bottum end rebiulds and stroking a motor, what he said is I can run .040 pistons with my stock assembly of course they are going to balance the engine, hot tank, do the mains, and all that **** for 1700 CAD including installing my new cam and timing chain and such. This will bring me up to a 308 which is what I am aiming for. With all my current mods and a nice cam I should be over the 300 For shizzle I should be close now. Does anyone know how Keith Blacks are for blown engines?

those numbers were just low estimates, to give him a ballpark figure.

I am in edmonton, if you are close by call promax performance.
I got a good deal, 1300 with all the gaskets. just the shortblock though, (block, pistons, cam, timing set)

I think 1700 is a bit much, if you supply the cam and timing set.
