Lemme be the first to tell you: get that 60 foot down! Your first purchase at this point should be sticky tires, then if it's an auto a torque converter.

Dude what the hell happened, my 98 can hit the 1/4 mile doing 85 and its a slow as hell automattic. God what's wrong with the 94-98s.

WTF 15.3 @ 89.67??? My 2000 V6 trapped 88.71mph and its a slow piece of an auto.

96 was the heaviest year for a mustang.. i think thats a problem

That may be 1 problem but I can almost say for certainty that my 96 even though it is a 5spd and I havent taken it to the track yet will trap in the 90's.

I know its probably not written in stone but just checking out the specs on the 94-98 GT's the 96 came out the lightest.

These are all curb weights that I got from edmunds.com
1994-3276Lb
1995-3280Lb
1996-3077Lb
1997-3288Lb
1998-3227Lb

Than again that could have been the only manual and all the rest where autos. It doesnt go into enough detail.

Wait a minute I think I have the answer. 96 was the first year that the 4.6L was released and if I recal the 96 was one of the worst years ever for the V8, in other words, you might be having some engine malfuctions and difficulties. Yea just for the hell of it earlier after I read the post I had to go get gas since I was nearly empty and on this long strip of road on my street I hit 86-87 mph. Now my tank was almost empty and I was running on 93 octane gas. Oh, just had to say that the 93 octane put me at 407 miles on my tank, usually I get about 325, and yes that is with some flooring it involved.

Ummm they used the 4.6 in Crown Vic's in like 1990. So that wouldnt be it.

I guess autos are just dogs.

Well its not the engine, its every thing around it, see Ford basically made their decision at the last minute to can the 5.0, and my theory is that they seriously screwed up on the 96s, there are just too many people with a 96 GT that has problems.

I dont really have any problems with the car its just slow, and im not sure if the guy was telling me the truth about the 3:73's that are in the car, cause my rpms at 65 are the same as my friends stock 94 Z28 at 65mph, but then again my speedo is off by about 10mph so idk, its just slow

As far as the gears thing, comparing your mph to a Z28 doesn't prove anything at all. You can compare to another 96GT with stock gears same tranny and see what the RPMS are (coasting at a certain speed if you're an auto), otherwise your comparison is likely to be inaccurate and tell you absolutely nothing. As far as your times, so what they're a little on the low side. Keep practicing. Your 60' can come down and you can break into the 14's.

As Jthorn- 85 and 89 is a pretty significant difference in trap speeds... even 87 and 89 is significant.

sucks to have a dog stang, but as long as you enjoy driving it- who cares?!

Jack up your car and have someone spin one of your rear tires 1 full revolution and you count how many times the driveshaft spins. Use a piece of chalk to mark the tire and driveshaft so its easier to tell and that just use common sense.
3 and a quarter turns-- 3.27's
3 and a half turns-- --- 3.55's
3 and 3 quarter turns-- 3.73's
almost 4 turns-- --- 3.90's
ect...

Because I dont believe you have 3.73's.. But that still doesnt make up 3-4 MPH your not getting. Try some octane booster or something, or do nothing if your happy with your car as it is.

I can tell you exactly what happened. It was the 3.73's They are great gears and will get you off the line quick. But when you don't have the horsepower to push them at high speeds your trap suffers. I lost 5-6 mph when I installed my 4.10's. Get yourself a PI swap.

Wanna give me a grand? then ill get a PI Swap. Im gonna jack up my car today and see if it really does have 3:73's, and i think my tranny might be having problems as well because on some of the runs i would have to lay off the gas for it to shift into 2nd gear...prolly shoulda said that before.
