maybe not a huge hp gain, but definately a better throttle response, I could feel it,......Id go ebay or mustangtuning.com because its a sponsor/easier to trust than ebay.....
You guys missed the point (I ramble too much and loose folks - sorry)
The stock air intake draws air from the fender not the engine bay!
Thats why you don't need to cut a hole in the fender when you install a CAI... you use the existing hole from where the stock air intake draws air from.
The key is the extended distance between the air cleaner and the throttle body and the smoother surface of the CAI allows the air to flow into the engine better.
This is also is the main reason the split-port heads introduced in 99+ mustangs has 20 HP more than in 1998. The extended tubing of the upper intake and the air channels in the lower intake make for a jet-stream effect going into the heads.
Polishing your ports also improve air flow and HP for the same reason.
Any time you can reduce air-flow resistance you get more HP and better fuel economy… I through in the fuel thing in for you guy who have to first sell the idea to your wives. ;-)
So I think the only reason they call it "Cold" air intake is just so we could have this in depth discussion on line because the air is NOT ANY COLDER!
In fact I bet the plastic tubing of a stock intake insolates better then the aluminum of the CAI and the air temp (at the throttle body) is a tad bit warmer in a CAI system!
yeah, I know. if you've ever looked the stock intake you can see the air silencer is teeny compared to the rest of the intake, so that kinda restricts air. As far as material goes...any kind will heat up the same once the car has been running a while. But yeah, the aftermarket cai's do smooth out the air better as well as the filters...
Hey im obviously extremely new to this forum but u guys seem real good at this stuff. i have a bit of an annoyance... last night i just installed my new 70mm throttle body, vortec throttle body spacer, and MAC CAI induction kit. the car runs fantastic, sounds great, noticable power gain BUT... THE EVER ANNOYING STUPID "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light is on and really needs to be extinguished! im just wondering why its on, which sensor is going haywire or whatever and how i can get it to turn off. if i can turn it off and still have it work when theres an unintentional problem that would be great but if not id be willing to dissable it entirely! THANKS FOR ANY HELP!
Your SERVICE ENGINE light may very well be related to the increased volume of air flowing to the engine. The engine computer can only increase fuel scheduling so far with the stock 19# fuel injectors. I noticed that I would get the light when I installed MSD Super Conductor 9mm plug wires with the MAC CAI. I used my code reader and found that I was geting left and right bank lean condition codes. After I removed the SC wires, the problem no longer exsisted(I'm guessing it is a result of the hoter spark. Any thoughts on this out there?). I am currently in the process of upgrading my MAM to 73mm with 24# calibration and 24# injectors. I will let you know how it turns out. OBTW, go to your local Pep Boys, Advance Auto, AutoZone, etc and "rent" a OBD II code reader and check out the codes for yourself. All you have to do is hook it up, the connector is on the left side of the tranny hump next to where your right leg would normaly be. You can down load the codes explanations from the web. I,m in the process of loading them on my website at chipsv6specialties.com Click on the Performance Mods button. I hope to have it on the page by the end of the week after I finish posting my latest articles. OBD II stands for On Board Diagnostics, version II for late model vehicles.
The SERVICE lite means NOTHING! It is an interval lite that comes on when it was programmed to. It is to remind you to perform a SERVICE. Ie: replace the O2 sensors and such. The one to worry about is the CHECK ENGINE LITE!!!!!!!!
LOL 2000 V6 mustang stock guages dont have a check engine light its only got service engine soon... i would like it to go away anyhow so keep me posted if u will on what ur doin plz chip. so from what im getting if i upgrade the injectors and Mass airflow sensor that should do the trick? cause right now it runs fine but if i step it down at idle it bogs for a second and a hear a poof of air (from the 70mm throttle body i assume) and it revs normally after that. and the OBD does that come with instructions because ive never used one before? i just download the codes from ur site and im good it'll tell me what i need done?
My bad, I was thinking Check Engine but reading Service Engine lite. Check the service guide and note your mileage, that will help you find out what needs to be done.

autobadges.com has fenderwell mounted ones from mac if you want to go that way
Haha, didn't even see it,a nd I paroose Mtuning.com all the time. I was thinking a fenderwell mounted unit, but Idaho is notorious for freak weather changes, and quite honestly this state eats fenderwell CAIs alive. Plus, I want the extra throttle response.
The brand isnt specified, but what's the difference between the two? Pros...Cons? (besides the MAC being twice the price) I usually try to stick with the name brands, but I was just curious if the performance enhancement would be the same.
after watching a few videos from another site of 2.3's killing 5.0's and burning up the drag street I decided not to swap and have fun with it for a year then just buy a newer mustang or another fox body , but thats something else
Im wonderin were the hell could I get a cold air intake kit that will fit a 2.3l .or should I make one ?

For those with the MAC CAI for the 99-04 3.8L V6 and a 73mm C&L MAF Housing...
What is the best way to connect these two?
The stock MAF Housing has a flange to bolt to, but the C&L does not. I checked for rubber couplers that were big enough at the local auto stores but to no avail. I don't know if I want to weld those pieces together just in case.
Somebody posted a message on another board about skipping the cost of a CAI, and just putting in a good drop in filter(K&N), then removing the screen silencer to free up flow, and results would be practically the same as a MAC CAI, they had dyno and temp readings to back this up? What do you all think?
