I think the 9.5 was either flywheel or with ice on the intake
This is what it said on the sponsor's website. But what they base it on is not discussed. I'm semi-pleased with the product. It wasn't hard to install but for what it does it could be a little less expensive. I can always put it back the way it was and sell the MAC. I'll see what happens Tuesday with the next round of mods.

Hey spirit, I think you got one of those 3.8L V6s not a 3.9L, it will say it on either your intake or your fan, and your pic shows a 3.8L sticker on your fan, so you may want to change your sig. The only 3.9Ls were produced late in the year as a last ditch effort to sell off the last of the 04s to make room for the 05s, I talked to a salesman at Ford and he confirmed my theory. Its almost as if I were some sort of marketing major. Oh yea I am, ISDS, business administration major.

Actually my emmissions sticker says 3.9L and my VIN# comes up with the same thing. It is a 3.9L. Ford used these for only part of the year in 04 and only in the American Mustang. The next year in 05 they went to the 4.0L. Thanks
BTW .... the pictue you see is not my Mustang it belongs to the person who started this thread. They do have a 3.8L.

I got a mac too they said 8 somethin hp for a 3.8 was prolly like 4 or 5
And it is hard to feel that 4 or 5 hp. But tomorrow will be the real tester ...... duals! Then headers. I have the headers but not the time right now to install them. Doing mods one at a time lets me see the steps of difference. Then I'll be doing mpg testing until spring. Who knows, I might just take it all off and go back to stock. Especially if gas prices go back to $3 plus a gallon. I think though that the mods I'm doing won't affect the mpg that much. Might actually improve the highway mpg slightly.

Believe it or not, but the mods actually help gas. Now the duals with headers may give you 10 hp, but I wouldn't hope for anything more. You'll feel a little more throttle responce, and you'll love your new sound, but still don't expect to turn many heads accelleration wise.
I know about the V6 vs V8 sound. I am from the old school when headers were easy to install. Sixers were in a row. Duals could be put on my anyone with a torch and a bender. Catalic Converters were new. Four barrels and a high rise, tracton bars and a four speed. Headers, glass packs and popper stoppers. 14" rims were all you could get. Everything came with gaskets and clear instructions. Now its oxygen sensors, catbacks and catforwards, performance chips and tuning. Instructions can only be downloaded. "Contact Us" is a button that goes no where.

Thats HR&B's car, and I thought they ran out of 3.8's in late 04 and slapped windstar engines in stangs.

I believe you're correct about the Windstar engines. I know the 3.9 was going to be put in a van of some type. The 3.9 was produced in Winsor, Canada....So I guess I have a Winsor 3.9. I don't need no stinking mods...I have a Winsor.
Got um. I guess they sound alright. I can't really hear them from inside the car. But now official x-pipe, Flowmaster 40s and SS tips. Next are the MAC long tube headers (in about three weeks or so) I have them, just don't have time to put them on during the hoildays.
Yes this sticky kinda got turned into an exhaust sticky.....cats? yes I have three cats. A tan one, a grey one and a black and white one. Most of the time they're very quiet but they can let you know when they're unhappy. LOL...I know what you mean. Yes the 3.9 has four cats two small ones and two larger ones. Once the headers go on the OEM cat will have to come off and a new set installed. kinneysmufflershop.com the best in the business in the Metroplex. Ok no more exhaust post. I do have a MAC CAI which is what started this. Unless you have something to add to the Intake Sticky make a new post. You may now return to your regular programming.

I did a LOT of research before I purchased a CAI and found some interesting facts. The fact is all Mustangs (both stock and CAI mods) pull air from the same place (the fender) the only difference is where the filter is located and the air path to the throttle body. Contrary to popular belief, the air temp is not what gives a CAI the edge over stock intakes. Moving the filter to the wheel well does not make the air any colder. The benefit comes from increasing the length of the un-interrupted air passageway. The air filter causes the air to get all discombobulated so moving it further from the throttle body gives it a chance to settle down. The stock cheesy flexible plastic tubing also disrupts air flow and when replaced with smooth metal tubing causes the air to become more like a jet stream… causing an HP gain.
So… All things considered, I went the ebay route about a year ago and have been very satisfied. Yes it did not fit together right out of the box, and I had to go find a hose clamp. But for the money I saved it was well worth it and the looks are just as fine as the pictures shown on this thread.
the k&n also smoothes out the air. the fender well does have cooler air than the engine bay, but the air has to travel through the tube that's in the engine bay so it heats up a little. I have straight shot, though, not a fenderweller.
eh, hp gain in minimal to begin with with cai's. The difference would be hard to even notice. If I had to say I would go with fenderwell cuz the air is a teeny weeny bit cooler. It's best to just go with the best deal...
