No you dont need to cut a hole. There is already one there. And to answer your air filter questions, you dont need to worry about buying a better one. The one that comes with the MAC kit is fine.

Like penceman, I also have a 98 and you didnt answer his question about the location of the cai. The filter is located next to the fender, so will the fender have to be cut to make a hole for the cai?

And a question of my own: Does the MAC cai setup come with a good filter like K&N or whatever or with a junky one that will need replaced with a good one?

There is no cutting of the fenger. It is on the inside of the fender between it and the black part in the wheel well

It's just a real beast to get the filter on the intake when its inside the fender. But oh well.

Removing the tire is too much work. I just wrestled with it for an hour till I got it on.

Wait!, my 98 already sucks air threw that hole in the fender right? so whats the point of getting a CAI if the stock setup already does that?

The stock setup is very restrictive. The idea of installing a CAI is to let more air flow. It ups the HP also. Not by a lot, but when you have a V6, every little bit helps. Also, it gives your car a better throttle response. I don't have the fender well setup. But mine does just as well. You can see a pic of my setup in my gallery. Click on the camera icon below my name to the left.

Yes, but not nearly as much as the stock setup. And I think you mean the Throttle Body.
