Damn, I called him out in his video thread but I am in VA. I am not driving that far to pick on something that slow, it just isn't worth it.

Williamsburg, you are in Northern VA right?

I have a Cobalt SS and it is pretty fast. I'm talking about on Need For Speed: Most Wanted of course. Actually, I was at one point considering getting one when I transfer back to the states. I will need something to putt around in and get decent gas mileage. But after reading all this crap I think I will pass. But this has been an interesting debate so far. I especially liked the part when he had a few of his buddies come in and troll the thread up a bit.
Anyway, too bad you can't bring your car over here to Spain. There are plenty of Renault's, Citroen's and Hyundai's that you can race and actually beat.

i'm sure the cobalt SS is a decently fast car, much like the SRT4 (not as fast as the SRT4 though), but it's not as fast as this butthole is claiming it to be. sure it has a nice kick in the pants feeling and it's probably a lot better on gas than our v8, but still, this guy is just overhyping it. for the money it costs for an SS cobalt, you'd be better off getting an SRT4. now THOSE cars can run along side our 99+ GTs and in almost all cases, beat them.

NE is Nebraska which is where I am. When the tracks open up in the spring I will definetly look for him. I'll see what his car really runs at the track.

Bone stock dyno run - 219HP / 191FtLbs

Bone stock 1/4 time - 14.4 @ 99.6mph

You guys need a serious wake up call, yes a under-rated 205HP Cobalt SS would hand your stock GT it's ass, Deal with it. Anyone here should be smart enough to crunch the numbers. My 2900lbs car puts down more WHP than a Auto GT and within 15 of a manual GT. I had a 2003 GT I got tired of losing so I bought a couple LS1's but they got boring because the only Mustang competition was 03/04 Cobras.

Anyone here from NE with a stock GT wanna put a couple bucks on a race?

Before I can completely embarass you when I start modding

I guess I don't see how a 14.4 is handing any GT produced the past 6 years its ass? Now if you're talking Automatic Mustang GT I'd have to agree, they run high 14's but most guys who race GT's drive the stick version which won't have its ass handed to it by any car running 14.4 unless the driver can't drive of course.

I think Chevy did a good thing canning the Cavalier in favor of the better Saturn version but they could have made it look different than a Cavalier, to me it just looks like a brand new Cav. Depends on taste if this is good or bad. 14.4 is nothing to sneeze at, you can have fun with that.

99-04 GT autos do not run high 14s. I ran 14.3 in my auto '04 GT stock when I had it.

average 89-97 gt i see real high 14's
averang 99-04 gt i see around a 14.4
i not every one of thoes where stock

that coblat ran mid/high 14's
if that cobalt ss had a great run and that stang 99+ (not as easy to drive aka launch) dosent do as well as they should the like 4 banger COULD end up 1st

sn-95 gt's and fox bodies im gonna give it to the cobalt

83 to 86 Mid 15's from the 83 and 84 Mustang's to low 15's to high 14's for the '85 and '86, yes, even the swirl ported '86 ran in the 14's easily (depending on 2.73 rear or 3.08)

87 to 93 Mustang's have almost identical performance (except for the '93 Cobra of course and some feel the '87's had an edge) and depending on if they were sold with 2.73's were mid to high 14 second cars, with 3.08's they were low 14's, some I've seen in the 13's, bone stock, the Cobra in the high 13's.

94 to 98 Also had almost identical performance, very low 15's and some hit high 14's unless you had the Cobra of course which could be anywhere from high 13's to low 14's.

99 to 04 Easily in the very low 14's to high 13's with the '03 and '04 Cobra anywhere from very low 13's to high 12's

05 to 06 mid to high 13's unless a dufus is driving

All of this is in Mustang's with a Manual Tranny and the same driver. Call me crazy if'n ya want but 25 years of racing at the drag strip in almost every kind of Mustang made in that time leads me to these numbers.

That's fantastic, I have never ever seen any stock automatic GT from any year from 1983 to 2004 run faster than a very high 14 in bone stock condition.
If yours did, thats excellent!

I know a couple of auto 99-04 GTs that ran 14.1. Most auto 99-04 GTs run 14.3 to 14.6.

This is of course possible but I never saw it at the strip, that's pretty durn respectable. I've never seen any of the 99 to 04's that have gone to the track stock run that quick, probably a few thousand of them. Maybe they had CAI's or gears? The automatic has the worst gearing possible for racing going from '83 to '04, GM showed Ford how it could be done and frankly Ford screwd up until '05.

I'm not sure how an AT 99 to 04 can be almost as quick as the MT version, I'll call a few buds and ask what they ran bone stock in their automatics just to make sure I didn't sleep through the 300 or so trips to the track when automatic Mustang's were racing.

I dont know how an auto would run high 14s. I ran 14.3, my buddy ran 14.6. I have seen numerous ones at the strip I run at run 14.3s and 14.4s. An auto vert 99-04 might run high 14s but even then I have seen a couple of them run mid 14s.

My 00 mustang gt hit 135 without trying ( and i mean it just coasted with ease ) .... and for the cobalt ss, The mustang gt will eat it.. same with the srt4. My cousins b/f has a the srt4 and its nothing to say u have a muscle car, When is a 4 banger a muscle car ?... Then in that case my moms grand am is a ferrari. I would even put my cash on a older 5.0 or 96-98 gt on beating a cobalt ss.
quote:

ORIGINAL: codyss

A) I bought my Cobalt SS because my LS1's got boring

B) I would bet anyone here with a stock GT $100 that within 3 runs they wouldn't see 13's

C) My Cobalt SS bone stock runs 148mph, how fast is a GT? Without gears after 4th ends at
about 120mph it takes another 20 minutes to even hit 140mph.

Back from the dead or not people need to stop being so ignorant and stupid. The average times for a 99-04 GT are not 13.8 to 14.1 more like 14.1-14.8 with a very good driver. And like I said before the 99-04 GT will easily beat a Cobalt SS of the line but I have more than enough top end to catch up. From a roll even a GT will look very bad.

I wouldn't own the cars that I have and then buy this one if it wasn't fast.............
