And if you try at least use the right numbers: 2005 Cobalt SS 0-60 - 5.9 1/4 Mile - 14.4 @ 100mph
Those numbers are still very average, with perfect traction it will be easy to beat a 14.4
A bone stock Cobalt SS will lay down 218-223WHP and it weighs 2900lbs do the math.
After the GM Stage kits are released I will be playing with 05 GT's and LS1's.
paper race nothing. Magazine numbers are conservative (you call it average same diff) at best , but with that much of a descrepency I don't see an cavalier doing better than a GT.
"Those numbers are still very average, with perfect traction it will be easy to beat a 14.4" ...and with perfect traction a GT can do better than 14.1 your point?
i will vouch for codyss. i have seen him beat a 2004 mustang GT, 1999 mustang SVT cobra, SRT4 that was not stock but hickly built up by MAXPSI (MAXpos) haha. the only problem he had was an 1987 dodge dakota which is mine.
Only the uninformed and stupid call a Cobalt a Cavalier.
And yes the Cobalt SS is GM's answer to the SRT-4 both perform closely but when it comes to handling the Cobalt SS devours a SRT-4 the SRT-4 ACR is close but no cigar.
As for a Cobalt SS vs Mustang GT sorry if your paper racing and magazines seem to say otherwise but unless the race is only 60ft long the SS will win.
I didn't come here to flame or troll, but you guys really need to realize that the SOHC in stock form isn't really anything to brag about.
!!! And Redstanger your truck is a Torque monster !!!

what's there to be uninformed about? It replaced the cavalier right? It's meant for the same market with the exception of the SS and to be honest, it looks the same.
Actually I read the reviews... You're right the 'new' cobalt is more like a Saturn Ion - same platform. My bad. As for paper racing, I conceeded on the conservative numbers but don't sit there and cry foul when I throw it right back at you. Stock GT's can trap 13.8 with great traction (or as you call it perfect traction) and a decent driver. I never said the SOHC was to brag about, just that you say one thing but don't hold it true accross the board. "All things being perfect" the GT would still win.
BTW welcome to the forums... I like to debate so don't take it personally.
Well dude you do. Off the line you will be neck and neck since both of you have appox. the same 0-60 time, but in the long run your 4 extra gears will kick in and it'll be over.
Damn those 1 speed cobalts....
hahaha I got to this post and stopped reading. I just don't give a ****... so I'm not going to read it.
But in the real world saying a 99+ GT runs 13.8 is dreaming. Low to mid 14's is the norm for a GT.
Drivers being equal from a dig a GT will take a Cobalt SS they have the advantage (traction) but the Cobalt SS can and will close the gap to either even things out or win.
Look at trap speeds, they explain alot more than people think. A Cobalt SS can still manage a low 14 @ 98-100mph with a 2.3-2.4 60ft time. A 99+ GT runs a low 14 @ 97-99mph and needs a 2.2 or better 60ft to do so.
SOHC Mustangs in stock form just cannot pull hard enough up top which is why 4.10 gears make so much difference.
ByPopularDemand u need to change it to a cavalier, a guy at my school raced a cavy Z24 with a 3400 motor swap and beat a modded 2005 evo 8 LMFAO, it was rolling, the evo has exhuast, K&N CAI, and a chip, wow i would def. kill my self it i lost in a evo to a cavy

Please let us know when you wake up. You are both dreaming, or you were racing at Special Ed night at the track. A 99-04 Gt is out of the question. As is the SRT-4. saying that 180fwhp faster than a cobra is just telling us that you are a ****ing retard. NEWSFLASH You car is a "NEW" Cavalier. Please remember that the new cavalier does not, I repeat DOES NOT have an LS1. I think thats whats got you confused.
Just b/c it says SS on the side doesnt mean you can make up stories and we will even think about believing them. You get this on camera on prove it to me. Id love to see a cobalt take a GT from any possible scenario Roll, dig, racing in reverse, dirt track, Pikes peak rally racing, you name it, Cobalt sucks at it. . Until then, please dont make up any more kill lists that include 300+whp cars it makes you look dumb.

A cobalt ss is NOT going to run a low 14 with a 2.4 60' that is ludacris
if it could, then a good driver could cut a 2.0 60' and run in teh mid to low 13's
this argument is pointless in my opinion

Hopefully running by the weekend. Gonna run her good too!
Isn't the Cobalt SS same as the Ion redline? same platform and same HP numbers which is around 205hp? Am I missing something here or this info that I am reading is incorrect......wait a minute someone is trying to pull my wanky.......a cobalt beating a 99+ GT????? Do I smell BS in here.......
You guys need a serious wake up call, yes a under-rated 205HP Cobalt SS would hand your stock GT it's ass, Deal with it. Anyone here should be smart enough to crunch the numbers. My 2900lbs car puts down more WHP than a Auto GT and within 15 of a manual GT. I had a 2003 GT I got tired of losing so I bought a couple LS1's but they got boring because the only Mustang competition was 03/04 Cobras.
Anyone here from NE with a stock GT wanna put a couple bucks on a race?
Before I can completely embarass you when I start modding

Codyss, um, Im not sure I believe you. If your '03 GT always lost, and your LS1s never had any competition /x cobras does that mean the only cars that ever raced were LS1s, Cobras, and your one GT, because well if thats the case then yeah of course your GT is gonna lose. and btw how does your AWESOME SS handle the LS1 and SC Cobra? As I heard it the Cobalt can waste late model GTs like nothing and is what made Chevy use a 427 for the C6 Z06 (see they didn't want a less expensive car out performing their High end Sportscar like the grand National back in the 80s.)
2006? Cobalt SS 219 fwHP(per you) vs. 2006 Mustang 240 RWHP (Appx figuring 20% drivetrain loss, which is way too much)
i hate to say it omg why am i typing this i have an ls1 i was on 2nd from a slow roll coming around a corner in the rain (thats why i was in 2nd and going slow) my friend was in front of me (2 cars) in his cobalt ss im prety sure he was in 1st cuz when he shifted the back of his car squated a lil bit i have no 4th gear i have to go from 3rd to 5th
i started in 2nd about 20mph he was in 1st w/ a 2 car lead by the end of 3rd ive been on his tail (on/off) the gas
at the track he ran 14.8's i belive, there low end sucks but there quick from a roll i think he said 3rd takes him to 100+
he said hes raced a mod'ed fox body a couple times (all from a roll i belive) he said he owned him each time
