Default Engine RPM when shifting

Hello,

I would like to ask all the V6 owners out there with a 5-speed manual how their engines respond. I just bought a brand new 2003 coupe with the V6 and 5-speed and I find that the engine RPM whenI let off the gas to shift does not drop right away and even increases first sometimes. This delay in dropping of the RPMs means it is harder to match the engine to transmission speed in the next higher gear and makes it more difficult to shift smoothly.

Does anyone elses engine do that? Is this common to the Mustang or is there a problem with my car? I am very experienced driving manual transmissions and I have never encountered this before but this is the first Ford product I have ever owned also. I would appreciate any feedback from other V6 5-speed owners. (Well, it would be interesting to see if any of the V8s do this too....)

Thanks,

Default Engine RPM when shifting

Hey!

Just took my 99 V6 3.8L for a quick drive. My car does the exact same thing.

If I slow shift, then the RPM Meter descends slowly. I only noticed it increasing slightly once, the rest of the time, it just kind of hovered there, waiting for me to shift.

If I had to guess, I'd say that this is typical amongst sports cars, to keep the RPM's high between shifting to keep the engine running high for better performance. But that's just a guess.
