well last night, i went to a dodge dealer and recieved a courtesy test drive in a new solar yellow SRT-4. i was going to order one in korea before i came back, but assumed the insurance would be too high. turns out it's cheaper than the GT. well they said they can get me the loan no problem, but the next yellow one they are getting is on order, and wont arrive for three weeks. they called the dealers in the area, but they wouldnt sell it to them. but this is perfect, gives me time to sell my iroc and settle my warranty reimbursement claim on the old 97 camaro. so i put a deposit down, and they got it on hold for me, when i told em E4 military they said oh yea, right now the credit unions are doing 5.9 for 60 months, so you'd pay about 400 a month or so. we can get you in it no problem. im sorry guys, but that car is hot. i've been after one for over a year, but they werent available for order till jan, when i passed it up. they are only going to make 9000. even with all the mods, that thing would murder my GT from start to finish right out of the factory. unbeleivable, and they already have turbo upgrades for them, and the packages mopar is putting together will put them in the 12's. have you guys seen these? what do you think of them? if not, you need to.

I think it's going to be the next DSM.

Everybody hollers "it's a neon!" (much like "but it's a saturn!"), yet they seem to forget Mopar's history of turbos.

there's an online store called turboneonstore.com. they have a registered new customer there with a stock red one, said he took it to the track, and it pulled a 13.7 in the 1/4 bone stock.

Ok, I will be the one to say, but its still a neon. Yuck. I do look at mopar history. Just bought my 4.7 RC Dak in Dec, and for a truck that thing is quick.converted37776.5102083333

Have to say I'm happy you are ditching the iroc though.

Well, if torque steer is your game, go for it. Front drive blows regardless of what's under the hood. As the power level increases with front drive, so do the problems of traction. Way more so than rear wheel drive. Traction is a huge ingredient in acceleration. The Lancer EVO and WRX have it right with all wheel drive. Now they just need to get the cylinder count right!

I believe that this car will have infinate problems, and no recals...I have friends who have had some serious problems with Neons, and anyway, they look like a wet pile of Dog dookie.

actually the car is designed for straight line accelration, right down to the tires being aligned straight up and down. torque steer is minimal in that car, an issue all the car mags noted on being fwd of course. they said it isn't much of a problem, even under full throttle.

If they're so badass, why are they gonna be under 20k?  To me that's in(freakin)sane.  They're gonna sell so many I bet.

I've never been a fan of dodge products. I really don't like them, and I would be stuck with the line, "It's still a dodge, after everything I do to it, no matter how fast it is, it's still only a dodge neon." But, always go with what you want, dont try to make other people happy, its all up to you. You're the one who has to live with it! Good luck with it. You're gonna need it with dodge! lol

Back up off of Mopar.

Remember what the phrase R/T meant?

People will be remembering SRT for the same reason (street race technology, I think).

If you want a cheap car that's fast go ahead and get it.  But the key word in that sentence was "cheap."  Neon's just don't have real good quality.  Everything on them just looks and feels cheap.  You know that they're cutting corners somewhere to keep those things as cheap as they are.

Very, very true. They have to be made cheap to be bought that cheap. And mopar isn't that great. The neon SRT's are going to be remembered? remembered for what? speed? durability? HA!!! That will be the day. A cheap made goat product isn't going to hang out with the other better made muscle cars. They're only making 9,000 because thats probably as many as they're expecting to sell! At the end of the day, no matter how fast it is, it will still be only a dodge neon. No matter how much money you spend on it to make it fast, you can't change the name. It will always be a dodge neon, that's it. Not something to be proud of for a fast car. And who would want the sick sound of that 4 banger!?!?!

While we're Mopar bashing.. I can't stand the sound of that V10 motor either. Sounds like an overworked 6 cylinder to me. People don't realize that V10 is nothing more than a crappy Dodge 360 with 2 extra holes added. Dodge is great at re-using old junk to make new junk. Kind of like Taco Bell. Hmm, what else can we use these taco shells for...

The SRT part, not the Neon part.

Chrysler's quality has done a 180 flip. The Neon's aren't the falling apart POS's they used to be.

Most people dont realize that the 360 is to the 340 that the 302 is to the 289. There is some history there. I personally like Mopar products. That is why I bought one to be my daily driver in December.
