Default Chip or Tuner?

Power Module or Tuning Flash Programmer?......Are these both completely different applications or does having a tuner mean that there is no need for a chip? Sorry for the newbie question but i'm still trying to get familiar with this mod stuff.

Default RE: Chip or Tuner?

Sancho,

Congrats on the new stang! Hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours.

The 2005/06 stangs have a computer. The computer is loaded with many parameters (timing, air/fuel, etc.) to make it run. When somebody buys a "tuner" like the SCT or Predator, it plugs into the computer port (below/left of steering wheel). The tuner first backs up the stock computer paramaters (for safety and ability to restore to stock when you wish), then it loads new parameters into the computer. So, it "flashes" the computer with a new image. Then you unplug the tuner and you're done!

A "chip" doesn't work on the new stangs...it uses this flash technology. So, you don't need a chip!

Hope that helps!

Yea, go with the tuner. The tuner will allow you to change such paremeters as remove your rev limitator, reset your shift points, reset your idle speeds and much more.
